: EFI Tanks
rp0029 Aug 14th, 08, 06:36 AM I'm eventually going to put an LT1 intake on my SBC. I already have the manifold and a distributor that works.
I don't really feel like spending $1000 on some fancy aftermarket tank, but I don't want the car to hiccup either whenever the gas tank goes below half full. So, why can't I just get a tank from a junkyard?
I was going through old threads, and someone mentioned a 90's impalla SS tank will bolt right up. I'm willing to re-route lines, whatever.
Any ideas? What tanks will work? How can I find out?
Everett#2390 Aug 14th, 08, 09:00 AM I don't see it wouldn't work. Maybe have it boiled out before using. Seal it in paint, maybe.
Alamoboyz Aug 16th, 08, 10:57 AM Just ordered one for my 69' $499 plus shipping, brand new, much cheaper than ones I've seen on the internet. Got it through E-bay. Just enter item#360053015948 in the search engine on E-bay motors.
Hope this helps.
witherer Sep 24th, 08, 08:58 PM I'm looking for the same thing. Let me know if you get anywhere with it. I'm trying to figure out an inexpensive alternative as well.

It looks good & the price is right. But I didn't see any mention of a baffle inside the tank. Do you have any idea about that?
SIDEWAYS Sep 25th, 08, 04:29 AM Any reason why you cant tap the bottom of the tank and put the feed line there? Sediment maybe?
69Project Sep 25th, 08, 07:07 PM You can buy a new repo tank and then find somone to weld in a in tank fuel pump assembly. If you go to LS1tech.com to the conversions section they have a sticky on a first gen camaro with a LS1 conversion. The person building that car used a stock tank, and had a hole cut/some welding for a in tank pump. I would think that would be cheaper than buying one from rock valley or any of the other dealers. Those tanks save you time and probably look a lot better but I don't know if they are any better than trying to convert a stock tank.
Rodder Sep 26th, 08, 06:43 PM The Rock Valley stainless tank is baffled, stock tank isn't.
Rhino Oct 9th, 08, 06:50 AM The Impala tank works pretty nicely for a Chevelle, but it leaves something to be desired when put into a Camaro. There simply isn't the room that's needed and you run into packaging problems. It requires quite a bit of work to the trunk floor.
I may have been one of the ones discussing it. I did a significant amount of research, and even bought a tank for testing. It didn't work out as well as I would have hoped. I'm planning on sumping my stock tank.
bearcat44 Oct 13th, 08, 03:27 PM For 600ish you can get a new repro tank with the baffle and in tank pump already there. Look it up on ls1tech as there is a GP going in the conversions section. I got one and they look fantastic! the name is BRPhotrods.
BonzoHansen Oct 14th, 08, 12:21 PM Good ole jakeshoe posted up about those tanks at nastyZ. They appear to be spectra tanks.
I see a listing for my 67. W00t! Jake is better than Geico at saving me money.

BigBlock1969RS Oct 14th, 08, 12:41 PM Aeromotive has a sump kit that you can adapt to a stock tank, might be worth looking into:

Summit has them for about $150.00 as well as some cheaper ones from Competition Engineering:

Worth considering.

Holy hat, $1129!
I think that one is the pre-assembled sump, filter and pump.
The link I had above:

Which is $150 is just the sump.
BonzoHansen Oct 16th, 08, 01:31 PM I saw that, but I still got sticker shock. I won't be going fast enough to need that.
balljoint Oct 16th, 08, 03:54 PM I tried to put a 94 Caprice tank in my 68. Aside from it not looking good, it was too much work to get to fit. Have to cut holes in the trunk floor, etc.
jks67SS396 Dec 8th, 08, 06:42 PM so what are you planning to use for your tank?
SRGN Dec 8th, 08, 07:33 PM I bought one of the Spectra tanks for my Skylark off ebay. Nice piece for the price, but now I decided not to drop an EFI motor in that car and I'm stuck with something nobody wants to buy even at a huge loss. I'm using a cell with one of my Aeromotive A1000 pumps for the Camaro.
jks67SS396 Dec 8th, 08, 07:58 PM yeah, see those spectre premium tanks look to be ok at 500 bucks with the pump in there, but i need a bigger pump. on the order of 300 lph (70+ gph) for my 540. i cant buy it with an upgraded pump or with a pump delete option. otherwise id be all over the spectre tank.

I have the info on my work computer but not here at home. Pretty sure he used the same pump upgrade that is used in 4th gen Camaros.
jks67SS396 Dec 9th, 08, 09:48 AM thanks Mike,
as on chevelles.com, i just dont want to buy 2 pumps. im going to try a fuel module approach in a donor camaro tank. ill see how that works out
witherer Dec 14th, 08, 01:12 PM Go to Rock Auto online and get the GM32AFI fuel tank. I just did this, in fact, just painted it today. It's a 1968-69 fuel tank with a baffled high pressure fuel pump and sending unit. It's everything you need for a late model fuel injected engine, for $450. I ordered the tank straps to for another $25. I'm putting a '96 LT1 and T56 six-speed in my '68.
Here's a link of photo's. The last three are the tank. Freshly painted today.
