I finished rebuilding the 305 TBI in my '88 Camaro. The problem I am having is that it will start but won't run. It will start when I hold the key in the start position but when I release it into the run position it stops. Also, my fuel pump is not priming or pumping fuel. (I had to pour a little gas directly into throttle body to get it to crank, then I discovered my ignition problem.) I've check all my fuses and they're all ok.

Could these problems be related? I don't know where to start searching for the problem. Help!

I have a 67 camaro and had the exact same problems. New rebuilt engine and original wiring harness. I had a new gas tank and fuel line, new pump, etc. No fuel to carb. After removing the fuel pump 10 times, I pulled the fuel pump push rod out and measured it - 5 1/4" - was supposed to be 5 3/4 - A $13 fix. Second problem was a wire (Pink) became disconnected from the back of the starter switch - Took me 2 week to find it. As soon as I plugged it in - it ran. Hope this works for you.

Yea I check out the problem you had but unfortunately the solution is not the same between '67 and '88.

I had a problem similiar with the ignition, it would engage only while u crank it. MAYBE.....it is your starter relay, located on left drivers side behind a plastic kick panel. for your fuel tank problem, sending unit bad, bad wire/ground or fuse. im not sure, sorry i cnt help more... good luck.

Fuel pump relay

I'm not sure why it runs in the crank position. The 88 doesn't have a bypass circuit like the older cars do. I start with the oil pressure sender, is it plugged in? I don't remember what the FP relay does but the pump runs through the OP sender after the engine is running. I think a good repair manual for this car would be a good investment.

The fuel pump should work for 2-3 seconds when key goes to IGN, no start, no run.
Fuel pump relay is next to the drvr side hood hinge.

Bypass power for f/p is through 4-wire oil pressure switch by the distributor. Engine develops 20 PSI, switch closes, f/p comes on. Fuel pressure at TBI Schrader valve is 9-13 PSI.

Ign power to dist, big red wire.
