View Full Version : Henz Camaro
82Vettrin Aug 16th, 08, 10:26 AM I don't know if this is the correct forum section or not, but here goes anyway.
couple'a years back, on here somewhere, I posted some pics of a '67 Camaro a really good friend of mine was starting to "reconstruct"; ("build" is not a fair statement")..
his goal was a street-driveable car, awesome power and driveline, killer looks.
well, we think it's almost there, and I wanted to share some pics with you guys.
enjoy :)

he's about 3 years into this project. the car is at the upholsterer now, which is slated to take about 5 weeks to complete there. after upholstery, it returns home for the paint guys to re-install the front clip, which was removed to lessen exposure for paint damage. the overall goal is to have it completed for "Cruisin the Coast" @ Biloxi in October.
we fired the engine last Saturday, and you guys know the feeling when a beast roars to life... :hurray:
(oh, and yeah,, it has a '68 grill and taillights, even though the body basically was a '67 and will have to title as such. he originally wanted to put a '69 grill in it and call it a 67~8~9):p
Skeeter55 Aug 16th, 08, 10:28 AM I have to be the first to say that.... THAT IS A BAD ASS CAMARO..... and ill trade you :beers::beers::beers::beers::beers::beers::beers:: beers: oh my god you did an awesome job...

82Vettrin Aug 17th, 08, 06:58 AM thanks Skip..
I used a simple reminder (for me) in naming this thread so when the car returns and it's all put back together, I can post the completed unit.
found a couple'a more old pics from during the build process.

82Vettrin Aug 17th, 08, 11:12 AM we've sure learned plenty of lessons during this,, like, "it ain't as easy as Foose makes it appear" ..

Your friend has one awesome Camaro!! What HP and TQ numbers are expected form that 572? That's a killer lookin' set of headers on that 572, are they owner fabricated or perhaps a set from Dan Lemons of Lemons Headers?
Skeeter55 Aug 17th, 08, 08:29 PM Hey David that is sick.
DougP Aug 18th, 08, 06:10 AM awesome car -- hope it gets finished in time for your cruise
82Vettrin Aug 18th, 08, 12:40 PM the headers are hand-fabricated.. I have a pic of the entire exhaust system here somewhere (before it was all sent to Jet Hot). I'll see if I can get that in here.
HP is ?? at this point. it's the 720 hp, 685 torque version, but when we fired it, #2 cylinder seemed to be staying about 100f or so less than any of the others.
we were already behind deadline on getting it to the upholsterer, so the one guy who is master-electrician on the project says he believes it's in the MSD somewhere; we'll get it later. (we've already battled with a new "faulty" coil.. which caused another 2 days delay). up on the throttle, the cylinder warms~evenly with the rest of 'em, so it's just another "hiccup" that goes with any project
here's the complete exhaust system before coating:
is it loud ? l:)

prostreet69camaro Aug 18th, 08, 01:29 PM Chris,
That car is Bad A$$. Very nice job. Hopefully you make it in time for Cruisin the Coast. I will be there so look for a purple 69 with a blower motor sticking out the hood.
There is another section for prostreet. Come post some pictures. It is in smaller print right below protouring.
camaroman7d Aug 18th, 08, 03:38 PM Very nice work on the car. It is set up to run with that strut front suspension and the Lenco, very cool.
Cruisin the coast is one event I would love to attend in person sometime. What is the exact date? I have a business trip to St. Louis, MO in early October.
rat3j396 Aug 18th, 08, 06:02 PM Chris...Awesome Camaro!!! Congrats!
82Vettrin Aug 20th, 08, 12:42 PM shoot guys,, the Camaro isn't MY car, it belongs to a very good friend of mine .. I was just sharing pics and some info on the project.. my pockets aren't deep enough to play in this league :D
my participation was researching odds and ends not available locally (like the CF hood), moral support, some mechanical, etc.
he plays this sport:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8901/pdrm0006ls4.jpg
and wanted another "toy" for his stable..
my pockets aren't deep enough :o
when the Camaro returns from upholstery and the car is completely reassembled, I'll post those pics in prostreet.
happy trails :beers:
69Z28-RS Aug 20th, 08, 01:09 PM Is the color 'Corvette bronze'? One of the best Corvette (and Camaro colors) ever. S*
I plan to be 'on the coast as well' for the super show. I love the show, as it last for 2 weekends and the week in between, and involves several show sites.. The BEST thing about the show is that the cars are NOT just sitting still in a parking lot. ONe of the requirements to win the big $$ jackpot they give away is that cars have to 'get their registrations' punched at all the sites, so the cars are on the move all the time.. :)

Skeeter55 Aug 21st, 08, 08:36 AM If i had hes money, id through mine away :D....
I cant wait to see what his next project is gonna be.... We know hes a Chevy Man :beers:
82Vettrin Aug 21st, 08, 11:11 AM the color is "sunburst orange"..
yep,, he's definitely a Bowtie~guy.. I don't have pics, but he also has a pristeen '57 Bel Air, restored to today's technology,, of course
I do believe it's next on the project-list, when the Camaro is finished..
slated for it is rack and pinion steering, and he keeps talking about mini-tubs, to fatten-up the rear wheels/tires.
what I'll do is,, when I get pics of the Camaro,, I'll get the whole stable.

I believe I have seen this car at "Somernites Cruise" in Somerset, Ky. It's one bad blown injected Bowtie:yes::cool:
Buzz0 Aug 24th, 08, 06:32 PM Hey Chris, what is the story on that grille? It almost looks like a billet piece. Or is it just new? I need a new grille so if you could tell me where your friend got it I would appreciate it.

he says it came from J.C. Whitney, and was just called a "billet grill".
there is a guy here in town who had one similar, and Henry had him get it..
I'm not sure if this is it or not; he doesn't have the paperwork anymore.... http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000279485/mediaCode-ZX/appId-10658809/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:10000027948510658809
you might call 'em and ask
82Vettrin Aug 25th, 08, 01:14 PM yupp David,,, you're right-on with seeing the '55 @ Somernites.
prostreet69camaro Aug 26th, 08, 06:16 AM That guy has some nice cars.
19694speed Aug 26th, 08, 07:21 PM That guy has some nice cars.
I'll second that:thumbsup:
82Vettrin Sep 23rd, 08, 08:37 PM well, if the upholstery man hasn't lied (AGAIN), :boxing: ,,
I oughta have some completed pictures for y'all by this weekend. :hurray:
it's been one-hassle-after-another.
Henry got down to the point of threatening to whip this guy's azz or get his deposit back...
AFTER the car sat for 2 weeks untouched. 1st visit.
the guy finally starts (piddling along), then stopped. said his Grandma was sick and possibly passing-away.. ok, that's understandable.
time passes ,, 2nd visit ensues, little action.
Henry: "do what you can, but remember I have a deadline". Grrrrrrr...
then the windstorm (aftermath of Ike) hit us, and he lost power.. ok, that's understandable also.. maybe. how's about gettin a generator ????? duh.
Grandma gets all-better and the car still sits. Henry pays a 3rd visit, then comes by my place and vents. I suggest we go get the car and take it someplace else. Henry says "one more chance"..
guy gets the generator. starts working 16 hr days.
power comes back on. keeps working 16 hr days.
today's report is: ready by Saturday...
seeing is believing.
if I don't post pictures by Sunday, there may-be one-less upholstery guy in Ky. :D
prostreet69camaro Sep 24th, 08, 08:54 AM Hey Chris,
I feel sorry for you guys. Hurricane Ike has torn up some stuff. My in-laws in Hamilton Ohio also lost power for about 7 days and saw 75 mph winds from this hurricane.
82Vettrin Sep 24th, 08, 09:42 AM I guess you weathered-thru ok, Mike ?
we didn't have hardly any damage here where I live; most of it was located 45 miles north of us closer to Louisville. some of them STILL don't have power, but it's scheduled to be completed today. 304,000 customers of one single utility co. lost power at the same time; a miniscule number when compared to the coastal damages, but a huge number for us this far inland.
that wind was a weird event, something we've never seen (in our lifetimes) and the weather folks said we probably might not ever see again in our lifetimes.
... Henry was going to check-on the car this morning, and I haven't heard from him yet. that's not a good thing.
**: 4 PM. well, I'm just going to edit this and add to:
current status: rear (glass) window wouldn't fit. evidently, when the body was taken apart for the stretching and etc., the top must have taken an orientation other-than-how the stock glass is patterened (bowed), so he had to order a lexan glass, overnight UPS. car is promised for delivery tomorrow afternoon ,, if the glass gets installed.
lesson learned: brace, brace, brace. everything which is desired to retain it's stock contours in the end result.
prostreet69camaro Sep 24th, 08, 03:23 PM Yes we did pretty good here. Trees and fences down. Just a few shingles off. But lost power for a week.
Damn the bad luck on the back glass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been having some of that lately too.
fatblock Sep 24th, 08, 07:08 PM I want that hat and nozzles off the 55.:D
1969ProStreetCamaro Sep 24th, 08, 07:26 PM I want that hat and nozzles off the 55.:D
George,
I have seen that '55 in person at Somernites Cruise in Somerset,Ky. and it is one bad Bowtie. When that '55 cranks people run like ants to honey with their video camera's and cell phone camera's to record it!!!!!
fatblock Sep 24th, 08, 08:28 PM No doubt David.Sounds like a heavy hitter bbc for sure. The look is killer and cudos to the tuner if it is mechanical fuel injection on the street.I like fuel air mixers..easy to configure..but want the slammed hat look atop the blower.Efi might be in the works with fau paux stainless lines.Always thinking.

I like the way you think George . I too, have always liked how an injector hat looks on top of a blower, not that there's anything wrong with dual carbs, I just like the injector hat better. It screams "horsepower".
82Vettrin Sep 26th, 08, 08:17 AM to look at Henry's tuner, (who is also the major designer of the mechanicals on the Camaro), you'd think he was a simpleton.. looks can be very deceiving ..
if you've seen Henry's '55 at Somerset, Mike, then you would've seen Wayne's '65 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 truck sitting right beside it. He's won so many awards with that truck that he doesn't even care to have it judged anymore;
that's just his good 'ol boy country nature.
fatblock: I can probably get the hat and nozzles for ya,, but I'd venture to say the rest of the car will come-along with those parts intact.... :D
the only problems he has with running alcohol on the street is the injector freezing-up, so, you can guess,, it gets trailered more than driven..
but one thing about 'ol Henry,, he has fun..
GMJoe Sep 26th, 08, 02:38 PM Thats 1 cool ride.
Whats the deal with the clutch and brake coming up threw the floor?
PRO 48 Fleetline Sep 26th, 08, 03:00 PM On most pro stock style tube chassis the master cylinder is a smaller light weight unit mounted on the frame down low, thus the pedals are set up to operate right up from the master cylinder! through the floor check out Vanishing point race cars site! they build alot of pro mod style chassis amazing stuff!

.........requiring less moving parts to operate thus eliminating a potential "failure point" in the operation of what is being operated by the pedal i.e. clutch, brakes or even the throttle.
82Vettrin Sep 29th, 08, 07:14 AM since the original pics were taken, the throw-out was changed to a hydraulic unit, because the fabricator had set the unit-up for a mechanical linkage and it was binding.
IF we ever get the car back, I'll take some underbody shots depicting that layout.
...some hitch with getting the front clip re-installed.
sorry,,, no pics yet :noway:.........:pout:
prostreet69camaro Sep 29th, 08, 08:15 PM Are you guys gonna make it to Cruisin the Coast???
82Vettrin Sep 30th, 08, 11:00 AM I would say at this point ,,, YES  (well, them, not me: I can't get off from work).
the car is home; still needs front clip installed (Thursday), front end alignment (this afternoon), and some minor touch-up wiring and last minute doo~dadds.. but, if I get off from work on-time this afternoon,,
pics tonight :hurray::beers::thumbsup:
