wiskeesour Aug 17th, 08, 09:54 PM BTW I smell scam...
1968Motion427SSNova Aug 17th, 08, 10:09 PM NO SCAM!! Do you want proof??????? For you to say that is sooooooo rude! I know more about this car ,NEVER found, but do know who the last owner was and where it went. Thru my extensive research for many years, know more then most, but not going to post in a open forun that info. I can tell you "Brooklyn Heavy " Rufus Boyd bought this car directly from Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins and Carman Rotonda was driver for it. Was then bought by Frank C and sold again.I know entire history including the fact that this was originally a factory L89 car when Bill got it.I posted this ad to share it,not to create a scam in anyway.Shouldn't kept it to myself, but the the AD is a fact, jack! Take care,Dan
wiskeesour Aug 17th, 08, 10:30 PM Wow, I apologize. Most times when a first gen pops up that cheap it is indeed a scam.
I would like to see it. I didnt think a car with that much history would be so cheap...:D
AlexFolino Aug 17th, 08, 10:32 PM If you we only knew now that we didnt then! You could possibly retire off that thing :-D
1968Motion427SSNova Aug 17th, 08, 10:49 PM Koool,my bad, should of posted its a mid 1970's NJ Old ad. Yeah I'm friends now with the last person known to have that car and both of us have been trying to hunt it down. This guy sold it in the early 80's. He kicks himself in the ass for selling that car now!! Hes shared some Vintage pictures of it when he had it.Still has some "Grumpy" stuff from car though. If found my friend would need to see it,he made some changes to it. My fear is it probably was made more into a racecar.I don't even think about what might be left of this car,but always keep hope its still sitting waiting to be found!
Everett#2390 Aug 18th, 08, 04:12 AM Good luck in finding the car. I always liked, still do, Grumpy's car.
JOE58 Aug 19th, 08, 08:27 AM That would be a great find as it is one of my all time favorite Camaros ever.
When I spoke to DA Grump about this 68, he said it was one of his favoite cars and was a big money maker. It always ran strong and was used in many match races.
This car won the first ever Pro Stock race beating the Sox and Martin Hemi heads up and was used in many "Monster Motor Match Races" in 69-70
here is an old post I wrote on that car.
"If a car can be a hero, then I would say that the 1968 Camaro "Grumpy's Toy IV" Jenkins used to win the first ever Pro Stock race at Pomona in 1970 is a superhero Camaro. The new Pro Stock class was wild and used liberal rules that ran the cars straight up.
Quickest car wins. No staggered Super Stock type starts. No hitting the brakes to avoid a class break-out.
The Hemi cars were going to be tough to beat running heads up. All the big guns showed up. Dyno Don in a SOHC 427 Maverick, Randy Payne in a Boss 429 Maverick, Dandy Dick Landy's Hemi Challenger, Sox and Martin's Hemi Cuda, Wally Booth in his L88 Camaro and Bill Grumpy Jenkins is his little old Aluminum engined 1968 Camaro car number 777.
Some ran trick parts like two plug Hemi heads, prototype sheet metal intakes, duel 1200 cfm Holleys, huge air scoops, and rumors of back door factory support. Some say Jenkins was running a destroked Cam-Am block. He kept a blanket over the motor in the pits. The finial round came down to the Sox and Martin 70 Hemi Cuda Vs Jenkins 68 Camaro. The 90,000 fans were on their feet. Grumpy beat the Hemi winning 9.99 to 10.12. Bill Jenkins became the first NHRA Pro Stock Eliminator and his 68 Camaro was the Chevy hero of the day.
AlexFolino Aug 19th, 08, 10:28 PM Let me see what i can find. A friend of mine hear is a body guy/painter and said his place got in "Grumpy's toy" a few months back. His boss i believe owns this car. 1968Motion427SSNova Apr 2nd, 09, 06:30 PM Just found out today from a very reliable source that a recreation of the Original 1968RS/SS Grumpy Bill Jenkins Camaro is being built. This is not the original one, thats NOT been found.
AlexFolino Apr 6th, 09, 10:32 PM Is that supposed to be a joke? im not being mean here but its hard to pick up humor online.
1968Motion427SSNova Apr 7th, 09, 04:20 AM Not a joke.Guys spending lots of money to make a exact recreation of the RS/SS 1968 Grumpy Camaro.Car will be represented as a recreation.

One?
When JM bought the Strickler '68 Z/28 back in '93 he knew its entire history. For the '69 season it was painted white and rebuilt as a twin to Jenkins' original '68. I do not believe there is any way to tell them apart but vintage photos could be of either. I have seen photos of them side by side.
Here is a photo from Hot Rod July 1970 showing Strickler and Jenkins working on the new '70 Pro Car. The photo was probably taken April-May 1970. The '68 in the background is probably Strickers' former '68 Z/28.
Don't believe me? Ask Jerry.

1968Motion427SSNova Apr 7th, 09, 05:54 PM William,So your saying Brooklyn Heavy didn't get the real Deal 68 RS/SS 396 to 427 4speed Bill Grumpy Jenkins car?? He could of gotten the Dave Strickler 68 Look a like Grumpy car? Dan
William Apr 7th, 09, 06:10 PM Don't think so. The car he got was likely the original. I believe the the Z/28 was always in PA; 2nd owner had it a long time. JM has the ownership history.
1968Motion427SSNova Apr 7th, 09, 06:32 PM William,Kool! All the info and pictures I have, plus many conversations with Heavy and actually meeting him 2 years ago told me he had Grumpy's 68 RS/SS 396 to 427 4 speed Camaro.I know ownership History on the car too.Thats why I was real surprise what you first said, really confused me and what you were trying to say. Grumpy told me his car was not White originally from the factory. He told the original factory color and mentioned it was a original L89 396/375 RS/SS. I have the name of the guy whos doing the recreation of the original 68 Grumpy RS/SS Car. Dan
Vette468 Apr 7th, 09, 06:40 PM I love this topic..does anyone know exactly when the Grump went from super stock to pro stock..? I think the Vega was the tubbed car -all the rest before it were ladder bars and small tires ? was the 70 Camaro ever Pro-Stock ?- or even big tire?:hurray:
jd502 Apr 7th, 09, 07:04 PM I believe the 70 was tubbed when I seen it in a garage in MD. years ago.
Should of talked my older brother into buying it back then. Damm!
Vette468 Apr 7th, 09, 07:50 PM yeah.silly me he went to Pro-Stock when there was Pro-Stock "new class"...the reason I was wondering was..... I know back then it meant "Leaf springs" if the car came that way".... or stock but modified... I wonder if they even bothered with Housing Floaters back then...probably not, who cares if it binds going on the trailer..eh? Ladder bars "ya may not Like the ride but ya cant argue with the hook.....I wish I had the list of CLASS RULES for Pro -Stock for like 1970-er so my car was a Race car almost all of its Life ...I know they played around with MOPARS -leaf spring technology...I dont think they just moved the springs in- they turned em around sometimes maybe they bought the MOPAR ones in the Mopar catalogue...there was RULE BENDING I bet "cheat but get away with it _ maybe......some of it might explain the battle scars om my own RIDE its pretty OL SKOOL:yes:---any input from anybody would be cool.....

Vette468 Apr 7th, 09, 07:57 PM whut I meant was Mopar had some "trick" tech springs in theyre catalogue back in the day FOR DRAG RACERS I believe they were listed as ''SUPER STOCK" springs I guess the Cudas n Darts had a terrible time with WRAP-UP.. I had a BIG BLOCK 4 speed ROADRUNNER "fer a while" that was DRAG RACED by a LOCAL guy-DISABLED VETERAN- and the traction bars were on the BACK-SIDE of the leaf springs-:D BIG CAR HOOKED LIKE IT WEIGHED 3000lbs..... :hurray:CRAZY I ILOVE MOPARS
AlexFolino Apr 8th, 09, 11:01 PM Well im not saying this thread is a joke but as in referring to this guy that has a shop less than 5min from me i guess is bs'ing that he has a real Grumpys Toy?
MUSCLECARMAGMAN Apr 9th, 09, 11:20 AM Does he have a verification from Jenkins?
deluxe May 18th, 09, 05:54 AM I believe the 70 was tubbed when I seen it in a garage in MD. years ago.

If you're talking Grumpys Toy #8, I believe Grumpy had it mini tubbed and when Richie Zul took ownership he eventually back 1/2 the car.
Anybody know what became of the first '70 Camaro? Toy #7?
Eleanor's Nemesis May 18th, 09, 09:35 AM I love this topic..does anyone know exactly when the Grump went from super stock to pro stock..? I think the Vega was the tubbed car -all the rest before it were ladder bars and small tires ? was the 70 Camaro ever Pro-Stock ?- or even big tire?:hurray:
He won the first NHRA Pro Stock event, which I think was in 1970.
I go to Indy every year for the US Nationals, part of the attraction for me is the Hemi Super Stock Challenge. Every year that I have gone Herb McCandless is in the announcing booth and tells the story that he was the first driver to ever get the 14 inch wide tires for drag racing, I think they were Firestones. He has said that they didn't even have any lettering on them, they were that fresh out of the molds. I am pretty sure he says that was in 1971, maybe someone else here remembers the story better than I do. I think he probably had the first 'tubbed' pro stock style car, a 71 Challenger or Cuda.

I was only about 15 yerars old. I remember the car it was a 70 camaro with 74 taillights in it. Car was near Jerry M's shop back in the day. A few months ago Jerry came up to document some stuff for my brother. I casually asked about the car. And he said it was a real grumpy car!! What Number it was I couldn't tell you. He did say we should of bought it back then.. Also I talked to my brother about it, he remembers it still had part of the 70 marker light holes still in the QPS.
When did Richie Zul take ownership? If he sold it when did Richie sell it?
deluxe May 19th, 09, 08:03 PM The car was leased by Bruce Larson until the end of '71 but I believe he ran it into early '72, until his Vega was completed. Richie leased it after his own car was ripped off, eventually purchasing the car sometime in '72? I think he sold it in '74 when he purchased Joe Satmarys Camaro.
Still trying to find out what became of Jenkin's '69 Camaro. Anyone?
JOE58 May 20th, 09, 07:22 AM The Jenkins 70 Camaro and Vega Pro stock cars were restored and sold at autions last year.
Jenkins also had a 1970 Camaro street/show car that was painted and set up to look like the Pro Stock race car.
1968Motion427SSNova May 20th, 09, 08:12 AM Joe,Was that the 70 Camaro Mike G bought off ebay 4 years ago?

There have been a few recreations built of this car. My buddy built one and from what I remember Jenkins gave him lots of info when he was building it
deluxe May 21st, 09, 08:40 PM The original '68 was wrecked sometime after the Brooklyn Heavy owned it
1968Motion427SSNova Aug 2nd, 09, 09:11 PM Check this old 1970 Pro Stock Camaro out on ebay.Panels changed to 74. This car is in Philipsburg PA NOT Phillipsurg NJ. Ebay number is 290334754302
RichSchmidt Nov 16th, 09, 10:00 PM Dan I won the Ebay auction on that car.I reneged on it because I didnt need another project.I keep touch with the owner and they still have it.The car has a VIN in it,and has most of the original inner structure inside the 1/4's as well as most of the original floors and framerails. If it was an original pro stocker,it never made it past about 1972 as a class racer, then maybe it went into the modified or gasser ranks.I can get the car for $3700 right now.The owner wont give me the VIN number so I can investigate it.The owner says the car was raced up until around 1990,but thats a load since those side bars on the roll cage have been illegal for decades.Neat car though and I have lots more pics
RichSchmidt Nov 16th, 09, 10:01 PM The wrecked Heavy car was the 1970 car it was sold to another racewr in the Brooklyn area and fell off the trailer while being transported. The car sat in front of a gas station for a few years and rotted away before being scrapped as far as anybody knows.
