View Full Version : 1968 rs very very red
seeburg220 Aug 18th, 08, 07:48 PM Please look at this car (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1968-CAMARO-RS-60K-ORIGINAL-MILES-MATADOR-RED-WOW_W0QQitemZ130247524148QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Trucks QQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130247524148&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245)and pick it apart. Find something wrong so I don't bid on it ;) Seriously, it's too far away for me to go look at, but I might just throw a bid in, if no one finds anything glaringly wrong with it.
I looked at a Camaro locally tonight, and it had me depressed at how ratty it was (and expensive). This one is a thing of beauty!
skipdaddie Aug 18th, 08, 08:01 PM Very nice car, though I have a feeling it is not as nice as he describes. Any idea what his Buy It Now is? Are you sure you would be happy with a 327/210 car?
bertfam Aug 18th, 08, 08:13 PM There are a lot of little things wrong with the car, but overall, it looks like a SWEET ride!!

seeburg220 Aug 18th, 08, 08:16 PM Not sure of his buy it now price, however, the website from the dealer shows it around $29k. I think that's high (aren't all dealers!?)
The photos were taken by someone who knows how to catch your eye: a lot of close-ups, and from interesting angles, too. I notice the right rear trunk lid in the picture, looks slightly mis-aligned or even bent; can't tell.
Black console lid cover.
I'm not looking for speed, so I would be okay w/ this engine. I really want an RS, though I'm not crazy about the vinyl top on this one. It's still got 7 days left, so it will be a cliff-hanger for me to watch!

jd502 Aug 18th, 08, 08:31 PM I think car is very nice, love the color combo.
I do definitly think something is up with trunk lid on r.h side, is it me or does the bumper appear close to the qp body line on the ps compared to the d.s.
thorpe67RS Aug 18th, 08, 08:44 PM There is one glaringly obvious problem with the car... no wing windows. ;)
Oh, and the caution fan sticker.
Seriously, its a nice looking car!!
67pat Aug 18th, 08, 08:50 PM Needs some gas...big time! check out the last pic
Dale8346 Aug 18th, 08, 09:02 PM Craig,
68's did not have the vent window. I am sure you know that but just lost your head for a second. Looks like a really nice car, but we all know that pictures make a lousy paint job look good. I am not saying it is bad, but this is a beautiful car from the pictures. The trunk lid may just be a shadow. I would ask him what is the reserve. All the reserve does is waste your time. If the guy puts a $55,000 reserve, then you know not to waste your time. I am amazed at how often the reserve is a DUMB Number. I did not read the the listing, but is this the original color??
wagonman Aug 18th, 08, 10:00 PM nice car.....

Darn Craig, you beat me to the wing window comment !! :D
but seriously ... this car is so good on gas it even drives on EMPTY !!!

68 Ragtop Aug 18th, 08, 11:04 PM Is there really an R at the end of the VIN or is that a typo?
You don't want to find out later that it's some type of replacement VIN.
I would also ask for more picures or the right rear quarter trunk area to make sure that all aligns ok.
HawaiianCamaro Aug 19th, 08, 02:45 AM Is there really an R at the end of the VIN or is that a typo?.
I would think he added the "R" since its is on the POP after the VIN to ID the carb (Rochester )

That's what I was thinking, too, but I will ask for a pic of the VIN from the dashboard, as well as another pic of the rear trunk area. He states the gas gauge works intermittently, so that's why it's on E (Running On Empty by Jackson Browne just popped into my head for some reason!)
77thor Aug 19th, 08, 05:28 AM I think it's just a bad reflection on the trunk lid..... very nice car.
Love the photography; the old-time class chick with the scarf... nice.

I know, i was just joking around. There is an ongoing joke on this site about those that have wing windows and "the rest". Basically those that have them and those that only wish they did. :D (Another joke)
But again, i think its a beautiful car based on the pics. But pics dont always tell the whole story.
skipdaddie Aug 19th, 08, 06:32 AM Was the original owner Harry Gerstad? If so, he has some pretty popular old movies under his belt. See if you can get the car for around $24K.
camarodude67 Aug 19th, 08, 06:44 AM Wow, nice car, not much to pic on, good clear pictures, documents, and nice options on top of the RS package. Just goes to show good quality car will sell in a off market. The only thing I did not like it the black rims....
Agreed, 24K or higher for that car....becuase it is clean, AC, Power Windows and docs.

Stewie Aug 19th, 08, 06:53 AM I really like that color combo as you can see from my pics. Mine is GM 510 red with red standard. It is a 275 horse 327 and runs real nice.
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Aug 19th, 08, 06:56 AM Buy it!! Women love red on red cars! :)

Crest View Dr in Hollywood is an impressive address.
The number looks like 2526, which does not appear to exist on Crest view (zillow).
Sure would make a great story if it was.

Eric Kammerer Aug 19th, 08, 11:29 AM Probably the post office changed from Hollywood to LA, or the dealer had it wrong to begin with. I show the following address about 1.5 miles northwest of West Hollywood, about 0.5 miles west of Laurel Canyon Park.
2526 Crest View Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90046

2526 Crest View Dr

Thats the same location that zillow.com shows.
There is a 2500 block of Crest View, but few houses.
I just took a virtual drive down Crest View with Google street view. It appears to be pretty steep and difficult to build on.
Isn't technology wonderful!
But your right, something could have changed and it may have been a good address in 1968 or dealer mistake.
Milt's 68 SS/RS 396 Aug 19th, 08, 12:02 PM It's going to cost you another 3 to 5oo.oo Bucks to get the correct woodgrain ashtray!:hurray:
Eric Kammerer Aug 19th, 08, 12:13 PM I seem to recall that, prior to a certain production date, the black ashtray is correct even with the woodgrain plate.
If the car is as nice as it looks, it isn't a bad price even for a 327/210. I'd have a hard time changing anything on it, but I think I'd at least change it to a TH350 since that is easily reversed later. I need an actual 1st gear...
Icemans_67 Aug 19th, 08, 12:52 PM Please look at this car (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1968-CAMARO-RS-60K-ORIGINAL-MILES-MATADOR-RED-WOW_W0QQitemZ130247524148QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Trucks QQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130247524148&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245)and pick it apart. I looked at a Camaro locally tonight, and it had me depressed at how ratty it was (and expensive). This one is a thing of beauty!Okay my two cents, very nice looking car, but how could it be a 10/68 build date as stated, but have a 1-6-68 protecto plate?
Eric Kammerer Aug 19th, 08, 12:57 PM Seller is just confused. It is an October 67 build (probably very late, or even completed in early November based on the VIN); Oct 68 would be a 69 MY car.
One other minor quibble; it has the wrong grille. Should have the chromed accent style 68 rally sport grille.

seeburg220 Aug 26th, 08, 07:27 PM Wow! It didn't sell. I can't believe it. Bidding stopped at just over $20k, with reserve not met. I was serious on bidding on this car, but just didn't feel right about doing it, since the car is 2k miles away from where I live. Had I been able to inspect it, I would have paid up to $25k for it, if it was truly as good as it looks.
