Hi guys, my brother and I are working on the 69 and the differential seems to be off alignment, the pinion points to the right and down. Its a stock leaf spring setup. Is there any adjustments we can do? We believe that the leafs have dowl pins for the axel, is this right? The car is just a roller with no weight except for the fenders, doors, glass and hood. We have also taken an 8 foot peice of rod, lined up to the top bolt on the diff (10 bolt rear) and the other end centered on the trans mount and the pinion does sit off to the right.
Thanks for any help!

Also, the car came with u-bolts and we have no idea where they go, the shackles already have bolt that join the differential and shock shackle that sandwich the leaf spring. Any ideas?
thank again!

If the springs are stock and they have the alignment pins and the differential is on the pins then it has to be lined up or you have some other kind of problem with the frame or a bent axle tube or something weird. A little confused on the u-bolt thing...are you saying the car has T-bolts that go through the differential and shock plate holding it to the springs? where did you get the u-bolts from? how many do you have?

Check the front spring mounts to make sure they are tight to the frame. Then look at the rear shackles. The bushings are probably shot. If one side shackle points furteher forward than the other thats the problem. Is this a monoleaf or multileaf? Monoleafs only have the housing loactor on the bottom. Multi leafs have a pin that goes through the spring pack.
Make sure the housing pads are in good shape.
Depending on the size of the u-bolts, really small, i.e. 2" wide are for the u-joint attachment. 3" wide and about 6" long go through the housing pad and sandwich the housing tube, spring pack and lower plate together.
