I have an opportunity to upgrade the heads on my 350 in my 69 Camaro. Currently I have 882 heads. I found a set of 492 heads with 202 valves, pushrod plates, screw-in studs, teflon seals, stainless valves, roller springs, accessory holds, and the pockets reworked. They were taken off of an engine that was being torn down to be "freshened up". They want $450 for them.

What do you think?

Not a bad OEM head, but there are better flowing aftermarket heads for a little more money added.
You can look at www.nhra.com to find the port volumes for both intake and combustion chambers.

I will second this. You can even find an old pair of reconditioned double humps for that price and would be better than the 492's

Thanks for the information. I thought the 492's were replacement heads for the 186 heads and flowed the same. The 492s came on the 1970 LT-1 350 according to my Chevy book. And they are straight plug heads. Anyway, since I don't have a numbers matching car, I may as well take advantage of modern technology. Any good suggestions for cast iron non-vortec heads with a 170 to 180 runner?

Thanks again.
