68Tom Aug 19th, 08, 10:54 AM ...really looks like they used the incorrect front springs, no?? Or maybe they're going for a lowrider look...

69Z28-RS Aug 19th, 08, 11:47 AM The dictionary definition of 'tribute' basically has to do with 'making a gift of, or payment in consideration of something'.... I wonder if he's gonna make a gift of this nice camaro.. and that is all it is.. " a newly built Camaro with big block power...". It is not 'restored'.. because 'restored' means to be 'restored to a previous condition'.. and this Camaro was never in this condition prior to this 'construction'.... Tribute must be the 'new' fakey word people are using who are trying to make money from something they don't have? .. 'clone' is worn out? or too many people now know what it is?
Unreal Aug 19th, 08, 01:31 PM Some say Tribute, others say Clone.
Sort of like some say eccentric and others say a$$hole.
Seriously, I think Tribute has become the "new" word since clone has come to connote something negative. Some use "clone" and "fake" interchangeably. I found several definitions for Tribute...some of which had to do with payment by serfs to their lords. But the one that IMO best fits the Tribute Cars is, "something said or given to show gratitude, praise, or admiration"
Sounds like you are pretty negative about clones/tributes, which is OK with me. But whether you like it or not, these cars are becoming a larger and larger segment of the hobby. The restored cars under your definition, exclude probably 40-50% of the rebuilt cars on the road today.
68Tom Aug 19th, 08, 01:36 PM That really wasn't the point of me posting this. I just wanted some clarification that, for the most part, it appears that the guy put a 427 in the car with small block springs, as it looks incredibly low in front. And even with this issue, the car has immediately been bid up to 40K.
Personally, I have no problem with a clone, tribue, or whatever, as long as it's not trying to be pawned off as an original, numbers matching car. At least the car isn't being crushed.
no69x-44 Aug 19th, 08, 01:39 PM Clean looking car no matter what you call it. I agree that it appears low. Maybe they used the lowered spindles. Count at least 6 other 69 Camaros in the garage. They all look pretty nice.
Unreal Aug 19th, 08, 02:09 PM Tom, I was responding to Gary's comments, not yours.
69Z28-RS Aug 19th, 08, 02:16 PM I don't have a problem with a person building their car however they like ... I just question the 'changing' of the words used (from fake, to clone, and now to *tribute*).. I consider his just another step in the path people take to 'con' people. There is NOTHING COPO about the man's car. It's a gorgeous car, very cleanly done... He should just DESCRIBE the car without using the COPO words or anything else that doesn't apply to his car.... Just one man's opinion!
Hatman Aug 19th, 08, 02:18 PM The thing I don't like about the add is it states the item location as western Nebraska but the phone # is from Monroe N.Y.
Hatman Aug 19th, 08, 02:24 PM They have other cars listed also .
69 z11 Aug 19th, 08, 04:22 PM COPO clone, fake, tribute, or whatever, there is a bunch of money in that car. I'm sure there are many nits to be picked but it is very pretty. My one and only problem with a car like that is that I would have to drive it!:D Soon as I do that, there goes the value.
Stewie Aug 19th, 08, 04:29 PM Pretty good money for a base car. There were 232,000 Camaros built in 69. Now if you take away the 50,000 Zs that are out there. (20302) built. So now there are a possible
180.000 Copo Tributes, or Clones or recreations. Come on guys enough is enough.
It a Camaro with a transplanted big block. 35,000 for a decent car in todays market.
It is nicely done.
Unreal Aug 19th, 08, 05:44 PM Wasn't it an X66? I probably would have built it back as the b/b ss it started life as.
By the way, I'm not understanding the con here. If a guy calls his car a fake/clone/tribute/whatever, please explain his deception. Now if he calls it a real COPO/SS/Z28?whatever, I can see the problem.
thorpe67RS Aug 19th, 08, 06:05 PM Wow..sure is clean. Theres a LOT of nice looking cars in that building.
69Z28-RS Aug 20th, 08, 08:53 AM Wasn't it an X66? I probably would have built it back as the b/b ss it started life as.

I call it a an 'attempt to con' non-knowing people. using the 'COPO Tribute' words at all is a 'con' (IMO). Why didn't he just say it was an original bigblock SS, which he built back similar to the COPO cars....?? which I think is the truth.. and. IT IS a very nice looking car from the photos. and it seems the work was first rate. He has a 50K car which he is trying to get 100K for.. he should take it to B-J and not say a word.. just let the car speak for itself.. *S*
cjm465 Aug 20th, 08, 09:34 AM With that tag, X-66, this one may pop back up in the future without the word "tribute".
How does tag look?

Sort of like some say eccentric and others say a$.

I doubt very seriously if the owners of *real* COPO cars consider such advertisements and cars .. as 'tributes'......... :(
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Aug 20th, 08, 10:29 AM Nice looking car!
phel69 Aug 20th, 08, 07:27 PM Car is beautiful, clone or not. Probably 60k in parts and paint alone.
z28302dz Aug 21st, 08, 07:31 AM They could have labeled it "Reborn". It could use a little more spring up front, but no doubt of a beautiful restoration. I like what they did with the interior. Not for the number matching crowd, but it would something that I would like to own if the price was right.

So, I want to sell you a counterfeit hundred dollar bill. If I call it a "Hundred Clone" or a "Hundred Tribute", you think I'm trying to con you. But if I call it a "one dollar bill, that I built back similar to a hundred," then that's OK.
I think I get it now!!
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Aug 22nd, 08, 06:36 PM I think I would rather have this...

Zebowtie67 Aug 22nd, 08, 07:14 PM I think he could have done just as well listing as what it is. People have every right to talk up things they are selling but this pushes the boundary of becoming deceptive and using the word tribute is like try to hide a bad paint job with a coat of wax it just doesn't work for me any ways. It is a beautiful car no doubt. I would drive it proudly.
skipdaddie Aug 22nd, 08, 08:23 PM I don't have any problem with his ad. He clearly states tribute multiple times. If someone doesn't know what the term tribute means, they should get some professional assistance before purchasing a car in this price range.
jd502 Aug 22nd, 08, 09:09 PM Dave Calligan,
How could anybody bid on that prostreet car. Check out his feedback 66%. That car is perfect in everyway:thumbsup:

i'll give you 50 cents for it ...when the feeding frency is over the cars that are real will always be worth the real $
Steve1984 Aug 23rd, 08, 12:33 AM Nice car.. I just find that 'tribute' word misleading
ocean1 Aug 23rd, 08, 02:01 AM Its a more flattering way of saying clone for sure. But its not horribly misleading I didnt think. One of the definitions of a tribute is compliment, being like this sentence This statue of this man has been erected as a tribute to a great man; We must pay tribute to his great courage.
So its not the man its a statue or replica of that great man.
That car was built as a "tribute" to a great car... I think its pretty clear.
Maybe im wrong, anyway I have never been confused by an add saying the word tribute be a car or anything for that matter.
Anyway VERY nice car and I would love to have it!!
Oh heres a sample of one way to use tribute that we are all familiar with.. Maybe thats where the tribute car came from.
Main Entry: tribute band
Part of Speech: n
Definition: a musical group that imitates a former band or performer that was highly popular; a band that performs the music of a famous band
Example: The Santana tribute band performed at the casino.

I'm not bidding on it I already have one but before I bought a stock appearing car for big $$$$$$$$$$$$ I would buy a low rent PS car cause they sell cheap so they say.....JMO.....

Sorry, my reserve is higher than that....Besides, the discussion was about deception, not value.
