View Full Version : 69 302 engine is worth??? jp98 Aug 20th, 08, 09:41 PM I have a 69 302 DZ engine W/4speed trans. it is currently in a 68 camaro runs and drives I was thinking of selling the engine and trans, any ideas what I could get out of it, Is $7k to much?? buenymayor Aug 20th, 08, 09:55 PM What are all the numbers stamped on the engine pad and/or down by the oil filter. Also the numbers stamped in the transmission. It ought to be worth more than that to the owner of it's original car. Post up pictures of all that if you can. RamAirDave Aug 20th, 08, 10:36 PM First step is to get all the #s you can off the engine/trans as Brian said. Then go from there. Mark Rossiter Aug 21st, 08, 07:06 PM jp98, welcome to Team Camaro!! There is a "What's it worth?" forum category on this site. http://www.camaros.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=66 Your question will probably get more of the right kind of attention over there. jmcbeth Aug 21st, 08, 08:10 PM jp98, If it is a true DZ block with the original stampings and the partial VIN on the block matches the partial VIN on the tranny, $7K is NOT unreasonable at all. As mentioned by others, the person most likely to pay the most for this combination is the owner of the car that belongs to the drive train. CRG (camaros.org) maintains a DB of known cars. You can ask them if they know of the owner of the matching car. ALternatively, if you post pics of the stampings, we can determine if they are authentic and perhaps help find the owner of the matching car. What do you plan to replace the engine with? jp98 Aug 21st, 08, 09:47 PM I have a 68 camaro and it is not a z-28, but it had the 302 in it when I bought it. I would like to replace it with a LS-1 motor. This is just a thought at this point in time. jmcbeth Aug 22nd, 08, 06:04 AM You probably know this, but there is a 302 CE (Counter Exchange) block. So many kids blew their DZ blocks, that Chevy began offering the CE blocks. These blocks are less valuable. jp98 Aug 22nd, 08, 09:42 PM I would like to post pic's but I hae no idea how sorry. I have pic's of the numbers stamped on the front of the block, I can e-mail them to some if they can tell by these numbers if it is a real DZ 302. Lost in the 60's Aug 24th, 08, 02:39 PM Restamp... there would not be any letter "T" or other wise before the DZ... T is a truck designation. It isn't a 302 engine at all, unless someone was REALLY in left field when it was stamped. Get the casting number off the back of the block and post that. You may have a decent 350 4 bolt block to sell anyway. Head casting numbers (under the valve covers) would be interesting too. jp98 Aug 24th, 08, 08:55 PM Thanks for your input. I never through of it being a restamp, but know that I look at it, it dose look a little suspicious. CGFlyer61 Aug 25th, 08, 06:05 AM Jim, You definitely came to the right place for answers. This site is fantastic. Eric Kammerer Aug 25th, 08, 06:32 AM Casting number is needed, as Mitch noted. |
