My son and I are in the process of a 68 vert frame off. We are replacing the 6 cyl for a 350. Does or should the P/G be chaged/converted or just have the P/G rebuilt? Thanks for your input.

PG usage is only for numbers matching and when you keep the original drivetrain (including rear gear ratio). Once you change anything, the shift points will not be correct (I wonder how I know :)) Go with the TH350 or a modern overdrive, you will be glad you did!

Kepp it inline!!!
Dare to be different.
SBC are a dime a dozen, when you pop the hood of a built up inline 6, everyone stops & stares,& wants to talk to you.
Pop a hood on a built SBC,,,people just walk on by. :-)

For around town and limited highway TH350.If you are going on road trips a TH200-4R.

In case you are thinking of swapping to a Muncie, budget $1000-$1200 assuming you find a good used M21 for $500-$700. Ask ME how I know ;)

Hey Hey Hey, watch it now!!! Don't be dissing on the Glide now. :D I run a glide and 4.10's and for running around, it's fun. I can spin the tires at will, after we got the cam thing figured out(thanks by the way to the guys here on TC). For open highway running, I have to agree unless you are running a more reasonable rear gear ratio(2.73-3.08). I want to keep my 4.10's so at first I was going to go with a T-56 swap, but I have decided to do the TH200-4R and just find a 69 with a manual already and do the T-56 to it. I like my Glide, but with any kind of low rear, it sucks on the highway.

A powerglide totally robs your engine of hp. My all original 327/275hp came will a pg & a 2.73 rear. This made the car run like a VW bug I had in the 70's.

Run the 'glide for a while. Then change it. To anything. That way you can appreciate how much more fun it is driving with more than 2 gears!:D

Put a BB in it and run the glide with 4.10's. It shoud run pretty strong. Add NOS and no tellin'! I can imagine NOS on a PG car would be sweet! One shift!

It doesn't matter what tranny you run, if your engine makes 275hp, it's going to make that no matter the tranny. The tranny can't rob your engine of hp. It may make it feel like it has more power by the change in gear ratio between the PG and a TH-350, but the HP is the same no matter what. If the PG is so bad, then why do ALL the racers use them? That is a question I have been trying to figure out for quite a while now.

Racers run then for consistency only one gear change. On the street you are handicapped with the gear ratios.

TH350
1st gear 2.52x3.55=8.946
2nd gear 1.52x3.55=5.963
3rd gear 1x3.55=3.55

If you take the 8.94 total ratio from the TH350 and 3.55 rear and divide it by 1.76 the 1st gear ratio from the glide you get 5.08.You would need 5.08 rear and a glide to equal a TH350 with 3.55 gears.

Transmissions take different amounts of horsepower to turn the internal components so they can take horsepower form your engine.TH350 takes 35hp to turn it a TH400 is around 50 and a 700r4 takes 70hp.
