Hey guys I have a 68' camaro with a 327 with a 600cfm edelbrock performer carb (1406) and its running way to rich...to the point of gas comming out of the tail pipes. My guestion is where do I start to lean her out. I ordered the calibration kit from edelbrock, should I just put the smallest rods, nozzles, and the stiffest springs? Or is this a mere simple adjustment of just one aspect? As far as the car goes theres a flat spot just above idle I'm assuming caused by this richness? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

That 1406 should work right out of the box! Check your fuel pressure, about 5 psi is perfect, much more than this can cause a rich condition. Always check the little things first!

And check the floats. Every edelbrock I have ever used had the floats WAY out of whack right out of the box. Edelbrocks are typically a touch lean...I have never seen one to rich. Have you adjusted the idle mix screws?

edelbrock has a kit ( No. 1487 ) that can be used to tune a 1406. However, I agree iwth the other guys to check things like float and fuel pressure first. BTW, the kit contains metering rods, springs, etc. to allow you a wide range of economy vs power type of adjustments ...

oops .. I see you have already ordered the kit ... I guess I should read posts in their entirety ...
