Are these cars worth buying right now? There are a few super-cheap ones in my area, but I'm wondering if they will ever be worth anything. Thanks!

It's debatable.
Some folks will say that they are the next ones to take off...
considering that they are relatively inexpensive right now,
there could be a run on them once the economy picks up.

I'm seeing more and more late 2nd gens showing up at car shows and cruise nights so I think they're already making a move in popularity so value will probably go up some as well. 350 4 speed cars will bring the most. And a lot of these cars may have the buildsheet hiding in them which is pretty cool too.

A low mileage '81 just sold on Ebay for 25K! I have a loaded '81 30K survivor 4 speed 350 Z that I would not let go for less than 18K.

Most of them have a build sheet hidden somwhere and the other nice thing is that all the factory documentation is available by calling GM.

78 4-speed Z would be the one to get.

Where would the build sheet typically be hidden? I have a 72 and it would be cool to find the build sheet. :)

Thanks guys, there was an '80 on craigslist for $300. The body looked good, but he said it didn't run very well, and maybe had transmission problems (don't remember). The interior was trashed. If I didn't already have 4 project cars, I'd consider picking it up.

Was it a stick? You should pick it up if only to flip it!

Some typical locations are...
on top of gas tank
under front seats
under rear seats
in rear seat backs

the Los Angeles camaros had build sheets commonly. the norwood camaros its very rare to find one and with all camaros in 72 built in norwood finding a build sheet is next to impossible

For that money its worth it, but these cars are still easy to find and cheap. I recently bought an original owner 100% original '80 Z/28 w/110k miles for $400. The frame rails are toast and in my opinion were not worth fixing. I sold the nose and wheels for $500, the air induction air cleaner for $275, the power windows for $360 and still have a ton more to sell. Buy em cheap and part em out :beers:

I also just bought a pretty clean '76 with only one bad rail for $200. I'm keeping this one for my 9 year old son. Its a transformers replica already
