Finally found a 69 RS from California. 59 K miles and mostly all original paint. Hope to learn from the folks on the board all the tricks of restoration. Car has a TKO500 and a Moser 12 Bolt. Look forward to getting the car on the road soon. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/Reactor111/IMG_1663Small.jpg

That seems to be a really nice one and seeing that build sheet is bonus too.

Only rust that I have seen is a small rust spot on the lower pass fender, below the chrome trim. Has a few bubbles under the top below the rear window. Other than that it is great. The floor boards a perfect, and the doors sill have the OE orange on the bottoms and looks great. All the RS equipment is present and works great. Dash pad needs replacement, but overall the interior (black standard) is in very good condition. Original glass and not even a scratch! I have a disc brake setup that I am going to put on soon. I will put a cowl hood on the car, and will most likely take the top off and just paint the roof body color. Never been a big fan of the black tops. Any way, I hope to get started soon. By the way, I had the car shipped by Horseless Carriage Carriers. Great folks and not a bad price for enclosed and only put on one truck for the whole ride.

One more question. What did the truck driver mean when he said the car had the original "Black Plate"? I know he was talking about the tag, but what is the deal with that? Any Kali folks know?

Looks like a very cool find, the LM1 (non-SS 350) is a nice option. Too bad about the orig trans and 12 bolt being gone but the 5 speed and Moiser are nice replacments... The black plate is said to validate the car was sold new in Calif where cars don't rust but reality is the car could have been sold anywhere and brought into CA anytime before early 1970. Also cars along the coast in CA rust almost as bad as those in other states and CA has a lot of coast...

By the way, where is Kali? is that near N Karolina? ;)

cool find  and that sheet is called "Broadcast sheet" when its found on top of the gas tank, not 'build sheet' , they are 2 different documents..
Dennis you mentioned LM1, what do you see to give you that idea? I love seeing the LM1's show up, since I have one, but I didnt see anything yet in these pics to tell me its LM1...or did I miss something, as usual :D I only see one fuel line from that gas tank, not 2.

Jim - he said it was a mostly orig paint car and I saw the 350 emblems and got the impression other than the tranny and rear replacement the rest of the car was stock. I believe that was a stretch on my part though...

If you have a friend who lives in California register the car there and leave that black plate on the car..... if two cars were sitting side by side that were identical and one had a black plate and the other didn't i would be inclined to pay a few bucks extra for the cool factor of the car having its original black plate.... make sure you preserve that sheet on top of the gas tank. If you need some advice on how to get the sheet off with out damaging it further post a separate thread for help... take lots of good photos of the sheet as it is on the tank

Thanks for the replies. Car was originally a 350 two barrel carb, with a 350 auto. Car was bought new in CA and was always in the guys family. Grandfather bought the car new, passed it to his son, some motor work was done, then it went to his son. I have original CA registration cards back to 1970. Also have the Warranty stuff. The protecta plate does not have the owners name on it. Is that unusual? I was wondering if it was original or a copy. The original owner worked for GM. Car is not anything special like a Z or SS, but definitely has good "bones". Car came from Chino CA.

Ok 350 2 barrel isnt an LM1 but that is one fine car there, knowing the history is priceless too. Can you video an interview with that family and document their time of owning it. It would be great for history buffs and a DVD of it can stay with the car.

I'm not a big fan of vinyl tops either but to remove that one means you either leave the trim around it or remove that too. If you remove the trim, you have to fill the holes for the mounting clips, or grind off the pegs, whichever way the clips mount. Maybe just change it to white. That seems to go better with the orange...

BTY......NICE car....

Even if you live out of state you can register it in Ca. I have a friend in Detroit that does it. Ca needs the dough.

Finally got some things completed on the RS. Wheels and tires made a huge difference in the look. Disc brake setup on the front with coilovers. You just have to love the ease of adjusting the front end height. Only painted the new hood and rear spoiler. Most of the car is original paint, and I just could not bring myself to paint the whole car. I am going to find a paintless dent removal company to fix some of the door dings. Only thing I need to get done now is install the old school sidemount Hooker headers. Thanks for all the info from the board. DZ434http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/Reactor111/IMG_1836Small.jpg

Very nice car! I too have a 69 with black vinyl top. I am not a big fan of them, so when I get to doing the body restore the vinyl is gone. Nothing but a moisture trap and rust to form. What a big difference a set of wheels and tires can do for the look a car. You mention about sidemount headers. I believe I just saw an article in Chevy High Performance mag of a guy with a 69 and had sidemount pipes. Might be worth checking out. Good to hear very little rust found. My father-in-law has a body shop and before buying mine we went through it inside and out. It was a Texas car. Most of the rust was under the vinyl top. Until you check under the battery tray. Needed a new core support and eventually an inner fender. Good luck with your car and the enjoyment of taking it for a cruise.

After you change your top to white,,,,:D,,, (OK, Parchment)there's a real easy way to prevent rust under the top. Don't let the car get wet. It'll be in a garage all the time except when the roads are dry,,,, right?

OMG! Did you put Z28 emblems on your car!?

I totally disagree that 'white' tops go better with orange cars... everyone knows that black goes best with Orange :) .. AND if he puts on Hooker side mount headers, they will likely be black, which will also go best wtih the black top.. (white is sort of a 'girly' color, don't ya think? :)
Yes, I'm a bit prejudiced.... :)

Nice Find DZ, found my 68 on left coast also. My uncle lives there and his friend sold to me at a nice price. My car was also a black plate car, by the way, I live about 1 hour from you and have been to the Hardee's cruise in on Friday nites in Stanley back in the summer. There's another TC member that lives there also.

Thanks for the comments. BK69, I have made the cruise in @ Hardee's a few times as a spectator. I plan on being there this spring with the 69. TGIFFORD5, I also saw the article about the guy with the sidemount headers. I currently have a set of small block sideheaders that I will put on the car next week. They are still available from Hooker for a 69 Camaro, but only small block and only in chrome. I bought the chrome, and sent them to Jet Hot and had them coated in black. A lot of extra money, but it is the only way I could get them. I would kill for a set of big block sidemounts for a 69 camaro. They stopped making them a good many years back. When I saw that set in that article, it gave me hope that I may find a set out there used someday. Nothing sounds better than a 500+ CID BB thru the sideheaders. As far as the black top, well, it is kind of growing on me. Thanks again for all the board members help. Merry Christmas DZ434

To me that black top makes that car. But it's your car and your money, as long as it is to your liking is all that matters.

I got the sidepipes installed today. After one drive, I remember why I liked them so much! Only issue was that I had to get one short spark plug for #3. The heads are angle plug Edelbrock. They were tight on all the plugs but # 3 bad. The short plug took care of it. Happy New Year!http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/Reactor111/IMG_1843Small.jpg

I love that car, pretty much exactly what I wanted before I realized I couldn't afford a 69 RS. What wheels are those??

Wheels are American Racing 200S. http://www.americanracing.com/browse_vintage.asp
