so im thinking of buying a 67 camaro,, it's got a very solid california car body w/ no rot/bondo, but it is in need of paint. the interior is in good condition--the the seats are nice, there's a hole cut for a stereo in the instrument panel, but it could use new carpet and headliner (headliner's drooping in the rear).. the owner swapped in a 396 and 12 bolt with posi and a multi-leaf pack out back. it's a 4 speed car with center console. i test drove it the other day it runs very strong, keeps pulling and pulling. also has front disc brakes and power steering. unfortunately i dont have the vin to decode what it was/had originally... so assuming it was just a base model that has had some things added to it what would you say? i'm trying to make him a fair offer that hopefully he'll accept.. thanks

TOTAL PRICE $9,150 $16,700 $26,600
That is based on the new updates from Nada classic car valuation. They went down a bit over the last few months to those prices. They will come back up =)
Those prices are a bone stock NO option nothing coupe Camaro.

Got to Nada.com classic values put in zip code and see what its like. The link above is my area. I see them going for more than those prices around here so those are conservitive I think.

I would let him give a price and work from there, what kinda guy is he does he know what he has, does he watch Barret Jackson. How much work and money are you going to put into it to get it where you want it.How fresh is the motor it could be worth four to six grand. How are the floor and trunk pans can you tell if the color has been changed. All factors but still could use pics.

He does not watch barret jackson, but he knows 1st gens are desireable items. He is in a financial bind, hence the reason he's trying to sell. I will try to get pics on tuesday when i see the car again. The car's had a crappy repaint a while back and would need paint in the future.

My plans for it would be as a driver, i'd put in a headliner and some carpet to spruce it up. Possibly later on swap in an ls engine and sell the rat and 4speed, especially if the engine came from a certain lineage and someone could use it for their resto

I'd compare it to this (minus the 'custom' gauges) : http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/802987600.html

David, did you mean the car is worth 4-6 grand or the motor?

I see rusted shells priced for that around here (bay area),, and complete non running 'projects' priced a couple grand more. Whether or not they sell for that is another question but they don't seem to last long.

as the owner of a 67 considering equal condition what are they worth compared to the 68 or 69? The perception that I have now id that thier the cheapest to buy.. At least it worked that way for me.. any thoughts appreciated

Naw..... 69- highest prices, then 67, then 68- in that order. In reality, the 67 should rightfully be the most valuable because it was the first. That's how I see it anyways. The price guides bear this out as well. A 67 is valued higher than the 68,but less than the 69'. :)

How is the motor is it a stock 396 and how fresh is it.It alone could be worth 4K depending the year and whats on it.Is the paint cracked up does the car need stripped this could be a factor. If you make the fist offer I would go as low as you can.

The motor is not stock to the car but the owner says its from a chevelle. It runs well, though I doubt it's been rebuilt. It does have an edelbrock performer intake on it and holley carb. I'll get the stamping to verify what it actually is and where it's from.

btw, nice car!

oh and yes the paint is cracked and would need to be stripped. I would wind up doing this, so it doesn't necessarily make it worth much less to me, but im looking for a fair market assessment, so I must consider the bad paint as a negative.
