I'm in! :hurray: I just made a deal for a 69 camaro earlier today. Our local guru Daytona Yellow 69 Z/28 (Nick) and I went out and looked at this one that had been sitting in someone yard for quite a while. Turns out it is an big block SS X22 car. It is pretty much a rolling chassis no motor or tran and alot of the other stuff needs to be rebuilt/placed mechanically wise. The body needs quarters and RF floor board's got a little rust plus a few other minor things. I am supposed to pick it up tomorrow along with a bunch of other body parts so hopefully will have pix in the next few days. As expected my wife wasn't as thrilled as I was but we all know how that goes!

I'm not married yet, so please forgive my ignorance and I certainly mean no insult, but I see this comment regarding wives and their soul-mates cars frequently. Why wouldn't someone who loves you and supports you want you to be happy and have a healthy hobby? Isn't the old car hobby far preferrable to chasing women/cheating, drinking, drugs, etc.? I just don't get it.

Congratulations on your Camaro purchase by the way! :hurray:

Wives usually have silly things like budgets and retirement on their mind. http://www.santafemods.com/images/Smileys/Smileyshocking.gif While we are busy going through our mid-life-crisis.

Congrats on your purchase! Post pics!!!!!!!!!

I guess I need to change my sig. I'll have to do that shortly!

Thanks to everyone else for the words of encouragement, I'm gonna need it! I restored a 71 Firebird about 10 years ago and this will be my first project since then. I think my wife will get over it soon she started talking to me this morning already so thats a good sign. ;)

Steve I was just thinking, The closest relavent analagy I can think of is if your wife or GF come home with a high heeled shoe sole, a couple of heels and maybe a strap or two and comes over to tell you:
"Look honey what I bought from some old ladies closet!!! They are Prada Stilettos made out of origininal Timbuktu leather and Egyptian gold inlays!! They aren't complete but I got them for a smoking deal of $3400!! I even have a cataloge to restore them!! Isn't that so cool!!"

You'd be- and she would be- :disco: . Just smile and agree and all will be fine. :D

Congrats, Brian. What are the colors for the int/ext? Do you plan on restoring it back to original, or going the resto-mod route?

LOL

I just went thru this very painful waiting process too, but on a 68. Congrats on your new toy....

"While we are busy going through our mid-life-crisis."
I started mine when i was about 14 and i see no end to the crisis......

I got lucky with my wife as she is happy for me, but would be just as happy if i would have left the car where it was. When they realize how much joy it brings to you and how it keeps you from bugging her about buying one it will all be ok...

Well it is a Rally Green w/black standard interior car. It's been sitting for at least 20 years according to the current owner so most of the original SS drive train is long gone, even the rearend. I will probably do a minor resto-mod but keep the main body lines. The only thing I'll add is a cowl induction hood and RS hideaway headlights with rally wheels on it and probably paint it Hugger Orange. Not set on an engine yet, perhaps a 454 or something or maybe go back with the 396.

I went and got the car titled in my name today at the MVD. Boy is that place a zoo... Anyway I got a 'found in condition' teaser pic to post for everyone:

This is how I first saw it. The fenders were inside the car along with a bunch of other parts and pieces. I cleaned out the inside of all the crud and dirt that was in it this evening. It got dark before I could snap some more pix so I should be able to get more tomorrow...

Brian, Why change the color? Nothing wrong with a Rallye Green Camaro. Once you get it all waxed and shiny you'll see what i mean.

Wow congrats on your new car. Happy restoration!

Well this is one wife who went thru her midlife crisis a few years ago and decided that I had to have an old camaro and my hubby was all for it. I have so enjoyed every minute of the restoration

Ok as promised here are some pix of the car. I was able to inspect it closely for the first time tonight. It's actually pretty solid sans a few minor rust spots and the usual parts of the quarters and a damaged LF fender:

Brian, seriously consider keeping that Green!!!!!!!!! Looks like a solid car from the photos. Please don't let this become just another red 69 at the car show. Dare to be different.......

Yeh really, Dont change the color. I personally dont remember seeing to many that color around. Mine is originally frost green but it was painted hugger when I got it. I'm really struggleing with putting it back to original color or not. But it is your car and congradulations on getting it.

I agree that keeping the rally green is a good choice...I had a '69SS convertable that was rally green and liked it, and besides, there weren't many that color that i remember, at least not in my area.

Imagine your 16 years old and you live with your parents. Now, imagine coming home from school and telling your parents you want to spend $75k on a car.

The reaction is some what similar.
