I am rebuilding a 69 plane jane camaro. when I bought it it had a 350 in it, but now I plan on putting a 396 in it. I already have the BB but was wondering what recommendations anybody has on long flow headers? I don't plan on changing the steering, so they have to be able to fit next to the worm gear steering box. Performance is definitely in mind, so I would like the headers to be even length. I can't break the bank on having somebody custom build them for me. Please let me know what you think.

Don't know about the headers, but let me warn you about something else. I put a 427 into a plain jane, using GM engine towers and NOS non-interlocking motor mounts. Everything fit just fine. I wiped a cam, so I had to pull the motor. I was concerned about the 35 year old non-interlocking mounts, so I went back with interlocking mounts from the local auto parts store. I carefully compared the bolt centers between the NOS ones and the new ones, and could not tell any dimensional differences. When I dropped the motor back in, I was about half a hole off on one of the bolts. I was able to loosen the tower on one side, and get the bolt in. Then I tightened the tower back to the crossmember. Problem solved, I thought.

Then I went to install the belts, and I can't fit them between the crank pulley and cross member. In order to install the belts, I'll have to remove the crank pulley.

Moral of the story....not everything fits, as planned!!
