I am currently building a performance 454 BBC that should put out around 500/550. I definately want to put it in a mid 60's to early 70's muscle car. I plan on building the car up properly with the whole thing being able to withstand the amount tourque it will create. I want it to be really quick acceleration and i'd like it to handle quite well. My biggest concern though is that i am doing this on a budget and time is on my side as i will wait for a good deal to come up. My question is, which chevy muscle car would be best suited for me to rebuild and put my engine in. If you want me to be more specific just ask and I will answer any questions.
Thanks

P.S. I am posting this on all the team chevy sites because i want everyones opinions. I have been on the team nova forums for about a month now and just discovered these other forums.

A first gen Camaro is better than any other muscle car, but the BEST choice is a '68 Camaro.. :D

Kevan,

For that size motor and budget minded, I would go with a plain jane Chevelle. Charlie 69 RS

Quite honestly I have to agree. I've had a life long love for the Camaro, but given recent prices I'd have to think twice before starting another car.
Surprisingly, the Firebird is roughly the same car, but can be found for thousands less. Due to them not being quite as popular, they're easy to build while still maintaining a little more mystique.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but your finger slipped off of the 7 key.

If you are on a tight budget you might look at the 2nd Gen Camaros, some of them can be had quite cheap. Also 1st gen Firebirds can sometimes be found fairly cheap as well. The 1st Gen Camaros especially the 69s seem to command a price premium.

1st gen Camaro, Firebird(67-68 (67@68)), or 3rd gen Nova(68-72 (68-@72)). JMO

I am a camaro guy but for on a budget I would get a 87 / 88 Monte Carlo SS. My son has one and a big block will fit right in.

I know he said 60/70 muscle car but you can get the Monte Carlo pretty reasonable.

I figured he was looking for alternatives. Of course you're going to hear a lot of votes for Camaro... since that's kind of what brought us all here :)

Total blasphemy would be Dart, Mustang, Javelin, Superbird. I think I could live with Vega and Chevelle. ;)

Bottom line, a cheeper substitute sounds good to the wallet, but if your not happy with it, it's not a good deal. Look at lots of cars and decide what you like, then start shopping.

Honestly it doesnt matter what we think, its your car and since this is going to be am expensive project to do right, it should be your favorite car..

Of course id have to vote Camaro, 67 or 69

Lots and lotsa 69s around with fancy big blocks. But then maybe its because its the benchmark of the 60's muscle car done right.

Just to be different I’ll say a ’67 to ’72 Chevy/GMC truck.

I already got one of those as my daily driver, and i thought about it, but I want a muscle car. Good idea though

I know he was joking about the Vega. And I can tell you from experience. I had a 72 Vega with a 327 and 4 speeD muncie from a Camaro. And a rear end from a monza and It would get WAY TOO SQUIRRLY and the motor wasnt even that wild. Very scarry ride.

Get something at least as big a Camaro imo.
