hey its actually a 289 chevy(283+.040) http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gifok ok i know its a little motor but its a fun little motor! which brings me to the point, i am going to start tommorrow evening, to tear her down and slap a set of 3917291 64cc 1.94's on it. they just came back from the machine shop today, surfaced 0.010, 3-angle valve job, and porting. i am currently running 283+.040, crane dual pattern .480/.494 cam, 76cc 993's(no modifications), performer with 1" spacer, headders, hei, 600 performer carb, yack , yack, yack. how much real-world hp/torque should i expect to see? i would expect some just through increased compression, but how much beyond that? thanks

Sorry I can't help you with how much horsepower you'll have. But I am in a similar situation, I have a 327 lying around
that needs to be rebuilt. But my 69Z currently has a strong 283/2bbl in it. I want to put the 350hp/327 cam in it, with
a 600dbl pumper over the winter. I currently have stock power pack heads on it. Can you let me know how this works for you? I'd also be interested in learning more about your cylinder heads.

You should see a pretty healthy increase everywhere, just because you'll be getting some much needed cylinder pressure. Thats a pretty radical cam for a 283, by the way!

IMHO. The little bugger outta be around 250 hp or so and around 275T w/ open exhaust!! A good sweet running engine. BUT this is just an off the top of my head guess.

PS., I think your cam is alittle much for the little engine. You might consider a CC 260 or no bigger then a 268, again, IMHO. pdq67

hey thanks for the replys. yeah yaw are right, the cam is too big, its what i had at the time, the only way i try to justify it is that it makes most of its power on top end, i mean, i have seen 7400rpms out of this thang! i consistently rev it to 6200, and doesnt seem to hurt it. but yeah i probably need to change the cam in it, i have a new crane single pattern 266 degree cam and a new comp 268xe, i guess i just dont want to break the seals, its sealed sooooo good right now. thanks again

69z,
after i got these heads (for $150.00) i started researching them, and found, eh i gotta pretty good deal. seems like they can be ported to flow around 215cfms, have a decent chamber design, 64cc, and maybe somewhere between 2-4th on chevy's early style hi-po heads list. i seen them listed on the famous chevy 302 as one of two main castings, also on the 67 ss-350. i have a set of the 2.02 version 291. considering i have $500.00 wrapped up in both heads, ready to bolt on, they'll be ok http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

My nephews homemade forged medium journal crank 283 has a set of stock big valve -291 heads on it but I think the only reason that they worked very well was that he had a little fireball cam in it (218, .454" type) so lift didn't get the intake valve in trouble w/ the top of the small bore cylinder, but really don't know for sure!! pdq67

ya know.. i going to have the motor out..i have a 350, beggin to be rebuilt..those big valve 291's and my 268 comp cam would work real good on a 350...id get more power...what the hey!, i think ill go back with the 350, and make sure my efforts are not in vain http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
