"Q: WHAT IS THE TRUE x CODE ON THE CAR. YOUR AD STATES X-11 AND Z28? X11 WAS EITHER A BASE CAR OR AN SS. Z28's had either an X33 or X77 code,Sep-01-08
A: Hello, Thanks for your question. I figured this would come up pretty quickly. The cowl tag states X11D80, but the car had a DZ302, M-22 and 12-bolt 4.11:1 rear originally. We did a great deal of research back in 2002 and spoke to someone from the Yenko club AND also the person who wrote the cowl tag numbers book. Both of them stated they had run across 3-4 documented cases of X11 RS Z28s as opposed to RS SS cars. They chalked it up to wierd stuff allowed to happen back in 1969 when people had cars on order and decided to change their minds along the way. BUT, even though we are fairly sure the car was an RS Z28, or at least an RS SS for sure with Z28 options all over it (the emblems even looked original when the car was stripped), we can't really prove it because we could never come up with a build sheet. The block was decked and I guess the only way to prove for sure is to track down that block and have the police acid etch the number to lift it to see if it matches the car numbers. ANYWAY, we have decided to price the car as if it were a #1 RS SS or a #2 RS Z28 or custom car, so we don't feel badly or misrepresent it. If it is real, which it could be one of a very few, the car would be over $100K, but since we can't guarantee it and we don't have the DZ block in it, we are accepting less than half that. The car is worth it anyway. I hope this helps and thanks for listening to what I believe to be accurate to the best of my knowledge. I realize they are "supposed to be" X33 or X77, as we have owned several, but there were a few documented X11's according to some experts, depending upon who you want to believe, and by the way, the X11 could be an RS as well as an SS, which you did not mention. We have had thsi come up a few times over the years, because most people only are aware of the X33 and X77 and haven't dug into it as deeply. I know we learn somethin almost every day in this business, and I hope my answer makes sense. Thanks!"
