Nicely done clone or the real car ? Probably the most famous Z ever built if it's the real deal. 98blackburb Sep 9th, 08, 07:06 PM Found it.................................. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/266062/an/0/page/4#Post266062 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/165079/an/0/page/1#165079 aussie69 Sep 9th, 08, 07:23 PM I think this is Car #33 from Jim Rathman Chevrolet ,I 'll do some more research but if it is it sold 30 miles from me new.:D 98blackburd, you are correct and the links you posted tell the story well. aussie69 Sep 9th, 08, 07:28 PM Whats the story on the blue Penske Z/28 ? Nicely done clone or the real car ? Probably the most famous Z ever built if it's the real deal. The Penske car is a not the real deal but a very nicely done clone. This car was also built by Miles Johnson and his team (Miles rebuilt the Bob Jane ZL1 as you see it). The owner uses it for various track events. William Sep 10th, 08, 11:25 AM I think this is Car #33 from Jim Rathman Chevrolet ,I 'll do some more research but if it is it sold 30 miles from me new.:D Jim Rathman Chevrolet received two ZL-1 refugees from Gibb; #33 N610732 [orange 4-speed] and #52 N620934 [Le Mans blue auto]. Both were sold to the same guy in Australia. #52 is reportedly gone but the engine is in #33. 69Z28-RS Sep 10th, 08, 12:46 PM Don Yenko also raced a ZL1 powered Camaro at Sebring in 1969 and 1970 but was not one of the factory built ZL1 cars. The Bob Jane race car is a cool story and great piece of ZL1 history Don Yenko wasn't the only driver of ZL1 powered Camaros running in TransAm and IMSA/GT... The ZL1 engine was available over the counter, and many of them were sold... and many found their way to the racetrack in the US. JOE58 Sep 11th, 08, 07:47 AM Do you know of any other 1969 ZL1 power Camaros in road racing? These are the only two I heard of but there may be more. Trans Am had a 305 cu in limit in 1969 and Penske and others ran their Trans Am cars at Daytona and Sebring The ZL1 engine was used in Corvettes such as the Greenwood Team and the CanAm aluminum block was used in CanAm racing and other races. A Yenko employee had an aluminum BB Chevy Monza that Don Yenko co-drove in the late 1970s, that I think was in IMSA GT. 69Z28-RS Sep 11th, 08, 11:48 AM I used to help a friend who raced a '69 Z28 (before he had to change to a newer body (ie.'73) in IMSA GT racing. He had several different engines that went in/out of the car at various times. I'm fairly certain that at least part of that time, he had a ZL1 engine, but most of that time he ran an iron block 427 with AL head (at the big tracks).. Daytona, etc. .. the local racers in this area, used to help one another quite a lot... loaning engines, etc. Once he loaned a 427 engine to Jimmy *SMut* means for his circle track car, and of course Smut blew it. *G* 1968Motion427SSNova Sep 11th, 08, 12:44 PM Joe,The 69 Camaro that Don Yenko with the 427 ZL1 was originally Built for the owner Bob Grossman of West Nyack NY.Builder was Randy Randazzo Clifton NJ.Started life as a 68 Camaro,Randy made it into a 69 Camaro. Bob and Don were both drivers for the car.Have some really coool vintage pictures of it.Did a lot of research on this car but have never been able to find it. There was a car on ebay a while back that looked like it,guy was selling just the rear disc JL8 off it. Couldn't get his phone number though. I believe it was in Norway maybe....Talked to Randy many years ago about it, he still had the original Fiberglass GM Crossram hood when it first ran a 302 with a crossram and I believe the number 8 on it.Randy's still looking for it,moved down South.Have his current number because he called me about 6 months ago.Best Photo from Syracuse NY was on the car as a Sponser. 98blackburb Sep 11th, 08, 03:22 PM Joe,The 69 Camaro that Don Yenko with the 427 ZL1 was originally Built for the owner Bob Grossman of West Nyack NY.Builder was Randy Randazzo Clifton NJ.Started life as a 68 Camaro,Randy made it into a 69 Camaro. Dan JOE58 Sep 11th, 08, 04:46 PM here is Yenko's 69 when it was blue and white in 1970 2nd is a cool picture of it at Sebring with the old birds in the background This car was very quick and ran with the Corvettes It has a light on the roof and 2 more lights to light up the number. This was to help the crew see the car at night. Dan, the red Grossman Yenko 69 ZL1 they ran at Sebring in 1969 with #5 they blew the engine and it was DNF 1968Motion427SSNova Sep 11th, 08, 05:16 PM Joe,Thanks for posting that. Many years back when I use to post on the Detriot Horsepower /Rabbit site I posted about this car and the research.I believe I posted a couple of pictures but not all.
