Getting ready to do this. Dumb ? - Does the new wood grain cover up the existing black dash? Any tips greatly appreciated!

Yes it does. The main dash plate has 5 studs that will be pushed through 5 holes that need to be drilled out in your dash frame. Then you fasten the speed nuts from behind or through the glovebox liner area. You can also remove the ashtray to access these studs.

It is not easy without a template to drill those holes and have them line up the first time. (been there... :( )

Take your time and try to make a template. *Hopefully it will include a template for you?
