Anybody ballpark how much this block is worth?

Do you mean L 4 8 casting date? January 68 doesn't make sense with that casting number.

That 8 has to be a 9 if it is a 388 block. Many iron parts that were casted have the 9 looking like an 8. Same thing occurs on the occasional rear-end.

I will have to get a look at it to see if the 8 is a 9. It is an L...

Would this make it a date of Sept 9, 1969, (or 1968)...

Not sure if 388 blocks were made in December of '68. I thought they began making them in the spring of '69 until May or June of '69.

It is a 1969 camaro 350 engine block 300 hp with auto trans. Casted Dec 1968 and for a late year 1969 camaro. Is it a 4 bolt main? number should be #3932386

Its an L48 block cast September 4th 1968 I-4-8 and assembled September 9th 1968. 388 and 386 blocks were used in 68, and early 69.

I thought above Craig said it was a L for cast date. I thought that was Dec. Which would make it for the 1969 model year. 0909HB for 350 camaro Sept 1969. My dad currently has a 386 block casted in Jan. 1969 and coded VI0I9HH Late 1969 camaro 350 engine. My main point is that your engine usage to me would be narrow from late Sept. to Nov of 69 when every they stopped production of the camaro. worth less money??
