View Full Version : Anyone have a photo of '73 washer reservoir?

Our newly purchased '73 is missing the windshield washer reservoir. I have tried to find the right one, but it seems there was a change made somewhere in 73 or 74 and I cannot nail down what it should look like.

Frustratingly, every time I find a series of underhood photos of someone's '73, the doggone reservoir is tucked just far enough forward and to the side that it never shows up...

Can anyone post a photo of a '73 showing the right one?

Since there is little of much interest up in the front corner, I think it will take a deliberate effort to photograph that reservoir.

Thanks! Scott

On e bay motors there are several 73s that you can catch a glimpse of the reservoir in some of the engine pictures.

tyrob,

Did you actually see a reservoir in a photo on ebay?

There are currently thirteen '73 Camaros listed on ebay that I can find. I have looked at over 100 photos. This is the best one of the reservoir I can find, and it shows nothing but the cap. (edit: guess I can't post a photo after all..? "May NOT post attachments"...)

It has been like that for the past week and a half since we bought this car. Close (maybe a cap), but no cigar. :noway:

If you can find one I missed, I sure would appreciate a link.

Thanks for the reply!

Go to e bay motors click on parts and accessories. Then type camaro windshield in the find spot. There is one for sale that says it is for a 70-74 camaro. Check it out today though becouse the auction ends in like 21 hours. Let me know if its what you need.

You need one like this

GM part #3961557. These are no longer available thru GM. You will find them on ebay. Prices vary. it depends on how nice of a washer jug you want. The really nice ( still translucent) not milky white ones can run anywhere from 60 to 100 dollars on ebay.

I checked it our, tyrob.

The entire problem is that I don't know if it the right one or not, and counting on ebay sellers to know, or be honest, if it is correct or not is a very bad idea. I have learned that lesson repeatedly when it comes to Camaro parts...

That particular reservoir mounts directly (no bracket) using two screws. I do not see two empty screw holes of approximately that spacing anywhere in the vicinity of where it should mount. There appears to be a single screw hole where I think it is supposed to mount.

Sambrutay, you must have been posting that photo even as I was typing that last post. If that is the correct one, then tyrob and that ebay seller are correct and I just need to figure out where the other screw hole is.

Thanks for the photo and info guys!

That's a huge help, twozs! I kept looking for holes directly over the vapor cannister. Wrong place.

Thanks!

I was staying out of this one. I'm sure the reservoir canisters are the same for the 70 to 73 models but the mounting locations are different. The 70 has the reservoir mounted to the inner fender bracket but at some time they switched the location and mounted the reservoir to the Wheel well as Mike has shown. This may have had something to do with the installment of a charcoal filter.

I managed to bid & win on that auction tyrob bird dogged. As soon as it arrives, I think you guys will have solved the entire mystery for me. Much appreciated!

Like any newly purchased 35 year old car, this one has its share of incorrect and missing parts. With enough questions and money, we will get all the bugs worked one by one. The expertise and helpfulness here has already proven to be invaluable.

I try to find answers using the search engine, and have succeeded on a couple. I just hope I don't try anyone's patience with all the questions I will still have.

Whether it is our motocross bikes, my Cummins Dodge, or our Camaros, I am a firm believer in participating in forums with hundreds or even thousands of fellow owners and enthusiasts. The knowledge and experience pool is incredible. As a stubborn old analog kind of guy, these forums alone convinced me of the value of a computer and internet connection.

Thanks guys!
