Newcomer to Camaros.net here. I have only known about the site for a couple of weeks now and have already gathered alot of information on these wonderful cars via this great forum.

I have recently bought a 69 Camaro SS, that is running 28x12,5-15 MT ET Streets on the rears and the 26x7,5-15 MT Sportsman up front on draglites. In the future I will be converting the car to become a Pro Tourer with 19's and 20's, but until then (lack of $$$ being the big problem), I want a wheel/tire combo that will be able to control the 600hp from the BBC, but also be able to handle around tight corners.

I am planning on buying either DSE or SPC UCAs and was thinking about keeping the rears as they are, and getting hold of a pair of 15x8 draglites with 26x10-15 MT Sportsman up front.

Is this possible or am I pushing the limit on the tire size? What backspacing will I be needing for the 15x8 draglites upfront? 4.5 - 5.5? How will the handling be with these front and rears? (I haven't got the car yet, so haven't got a clue on how it will corner with the big rears)

All of the tires you have (ET streets and Sportsmans) are bias ply, so it will not handle very well...

Thanks for pointing this out. What about the same setup with ET Street Radials? (235/60-15 or 255/60-15 and 325/50-15 or 315/60-15)

The problem is that this car is set up for drag racing (mini tub in the rear at least to fit those tires) - im sure the front and rear suspension is also set up for the track - the radials will help the street manners but it will never handle like your looking for without a lot of change.

Thanks for the reply. The car has a mild street setup. The rear sits a bit high, with maybe an inch or 2 between the fender lip and tire (vertically). The shocks have been relocated with a Competition Engineering mount. How can I tell if it is mini-tubbed?

I had a long chat with Mark at SC&C. He suggested that I ran on BFGs or Nitto drag radials, until it was time for the 19s and 20s. Very nice guy by the way, highly recommended. Ended up buying his Street-Comp AFX package amongst other things, so we can go Pro-Touring style next season. Can't wait to get the parts and the car :thumbsup:

I recently installed the AFX package with a Lee Engineering steering box. The difference in driveability and handling is huge. Very much worth the money
