The plastic part for the rear bumper cover is attached underneath the car and below the taillights by what looks like pot rivets. On the one side underneath the car is looks and feels as if you can squeeze and move around the plastic tabs but on the other side its real tight. How do you get this bumper molding off? Cut the rivet heads off and re-rivet or is there a simpler way?
thanks

why was this moved from the body shop forum? this is just as much a body shop question as any of the others. is the body shop forum just for the 1st generation cars? i don't see anything posted there stating that. kinda makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen.....

Sorry, you're right. It IS as much a Body Shop question as any other. I was doing some house cleaning and moved it.
It wasn't meant to "cleanse" the forum of non-First Gen posts. Maybe it's something I'll toss around in the back room and see what the powers that be say.
Stand by.

Davie - please don't take any offense by the move. Let's take a look at the Team Camaro site as a whole not just it's forum. Start on the main page and look the site over. What you will see is TC really is a 1st gen site by nature. It has nothing to do with other generations being second class, it's really all about there being so much information over 35 years the site owner chose to put together information on the 1st 3 years.

Now as the site's forums have grown and other sites Camaro sites have evolved there has been something special here at TC that has drawn in other generation Camaro owners. From my own experiences on 4th gen sites it's been the people that congregate here that make the site. Many other sites you ask a question and egos start flying and 30 posts later you don't know any more than before you asked.

Anyway, as this site has developed we started getting other generation questions in the forums that were setup for 1st gens. Our members answered when they could but there was an issue when doing a search looking for 2nd,3rd and 4th gen answers. 2,3 and 4th gen owners would search and find mostly 1st gen info. So the site owner in an effort to make the site a better experience for all created a forum for each of the other generations. Each moderator went through there respective forums and moved the different generations posts out to their own forum.

The idea was not to discriminate but actually make you and others feel more at home. Granted there is no breakdown under each of the other generations forums but then there really hasn't been enough traffic to warrant them either. It's been left up to each moderator how they wish to approach this. For myself I ask if the question relates to other generations or not. In the case of your question I would have been inclined to do as Joe did and move the post. Yes it's a body shop question but no I couldn't see the answer helping anyone but a 2nd gen owner. It's also an question only a 2nd gen owner is likely to know the answer to. By having it under the 2nd gen heading it gets other 2nd gen owners and those with 2nd gen knowledge attention and becomes searchable by generation as opposed to being lost in a sea of 1st gen threads when a search is done.

Now if you asked a question about cutting in a patch panel the generation of the car is less important to the situation and I'd be less likely to move your thread.

Anyway the bottom line here is the 2nd gen forum was provided to make 2nd gen owners feel more at home not make them feel like 2nd class citizens...

drill the rivets out.where the bumper cover mounts to the rear quarters, there are 2 strips ,one on each side,i believe there is 3 screws in each, take those out and of course the license plate.it should come right off.when putting it back together, that will be your choice, rivets or nuts and bolts

Hey Davie, Just did this my self. As Bowtieguy said, their are two blots in the interior of the trunk and one exterior screw at the very bottom of the strip. Then I removed the tail light (all) assembly and again as bowtieguy said, I drill out the rivets and if i may suggest to you fine a good spot (rubber cover) for this so that it can lay flat, unless your thrashing it. Also if I may add I'm planning on reinstalling the cover back on with blots/washers/nuts. Heres a tip, take it for what's it worth. If your planning on removing the inner steel bumper from the car, it can get a little nasty as the blots will start to spin on the outside (your going to have to get under the car to remove the nuts (8 total)) I had my twelve year old daughter push a crow bar up against the rounded head of the blots and it worked fine. USE plenty of rust juice ("BP Blast" up here in NE) Good Luck and have fun

Davie: Don't be despaired over the everlasting "Conflict in Camaro Heaven". Being a 2nd Gen enthusiasts and a TC Member, you will get nudged occasionally but don't get Tic'd Off as it's fair to poke now and then from either direction as long as it is not malicious and backed it up with notarized data or experience and trust me if your sincere about automotive restoration and quality you will be recognized by TC Members who know this. One way to look at the 2nd Gen Section is that it our "Hi-Ground" and if other Members disdainfully respect it we can justly tell them so. Man! Not even the 69 Members have that Edge :o))

If all members took it to heart, I would think TC would have to Specify a Section for each Year of the 1st GEN Camaro leaving the 69 Members posting in a lonely Main Page, 67 and Winged Members are allies - there's my poke - LOL; but HEY, it's the quality of the membership that makes TC the BEST Automotive Restoration Site on the Web.

All said with Presidential Respect to TC Members :o))
