I might be going to look at a 79 camaro, with a 73 350 in it tomorrow. There are 3 different engines from 73, right? Isnt one like 145 hp, one is 175, and ones is like 2-- something.
How can I tell the difference between the 3 engines? Is there anyway to tell by just looking at them??
Thanks

For 1973 here are the hp ratings:
Full Size, Nova, Chevelle - 145hp and 175hp
Monte Carlo and Camaro - 145hp, 175hp and 245hp
Corvette - 190hp and 250hp
The engine should be stamped on a pad in front of the passenger side cyl head with letters and numbers. For example, V0518CKW would be the code for a 1973 Camar0 350/145hp with auto trans.
Get the numbers of the pad and then post them here. CKA,CKW,CKX,CKY ARE 145HP Camaro Engine codes.
CKD,CKH,CKU are 175hp Camaro engine codes. CLJ,CLK,CLL,CLM are 245 hp Camaro engine codes.
The 145hp engines will have a 2bbl intake on them. Casting number 3997773.
The 175hp and up engines will have a 4bbl intake on them. Casting number 3997771.
If that doesnt help, then the head castings will be found if you take off the valve cover. You can find the casting number in the center area of the head, 3998993 is 145hp and 175hp. The 245 and 250hp are 330545 castings. You can identify the higher hp heads by the casting symbol on the front of the head. It looks like two triangles or mountain peaks.
