View Full Version : Tracking progress with pictures
67for/me Sep 9th, 08, 07:44 PM Well I got my worries answered in a previous post. Thought I would post the progress as it gets done.
I am having all the body work and paint done by a great body shop here in AZ. Here it is with as much as I could take off before I dropped it off at the shop.

Zulu28 Sep 9th, 08, 08:21 PM Looks like its in good shape, I guess I haven't seen your posts in the other thread... What are you going to do with it?
67for/me Sep 9th, 08, 10:52 PM My plan is to stay as factory as possible. Ermine white color code C, Put back the side pine striping from the style trim group RPO Z-21. Replace the windshield with date coded glass. And all new weather stripping, rubber seals, window felts and body bumpers. It exciting can’t wait to see it when it done.

67for/me Sep 10th, 08, 06:07 PM The body shop called today started working on the driver’s side. A little rust and a dent behind the rear tires on the bottom of the quarters. Working the body line and door dings. When working on the drivers rear quarter they found a document from the dealer :yes:in the fender? I am going down Friday to get an update and look at the document.

Rhino Sep 12th, 08, 02:35 PM That's awesome. A temp tag showing the original owner and date of registration.
I wonder how many owners it's been through to make it from Colorado to Arizona?
Satatic Sep 12th, 08, 05:58 PM You gonna try and get in contact with them?
67for/me Sep 12th, 08, 06:24 PM I have been in contact with the original owner. She bought the car at Luby Chevrolet in Denver when she was 40 and owned it for 38 years. This would be one of the last documents for me to have in my possession. I have the protecto-plate, the original dealer inspection sheet from Luby Chevrolet that is a cool document. It has trim and paint codes, vehicle serial number, engine number, Tran’s number and axle number all matching. A copy of the original owner’s vehicle certificate of title, the original owners manual and option book dated 1966, and now the Dealer temporary tag. It is a LA car so no build sheet, so I am told. It’s cool to have a history and a paper trail. :D

That's cool! What does she think about you restoring her old car?
67for/me Sep 18th, 08, 02:15 PM Quick update week two. Things are going good and progressing nicely. All dents and rust has been found. Should be blocked again this week and final primer ready for paint in a week or so. Total rust issues are very minor for an all original car.

I have decided to put the original Z21 style trim group back on the car. I have learned the measurements for the pin striping and will be having “ground effect” black out bellow the side trim. Most of this info came from CRG.

Summit Sep 18th, 08, 05:49 PM Wow, Luby Chevy...
Back in the late 70's and early 80's when I was collecting 1st gens Big Time I started saving Dealer Emblems.(along with the Camaro tags and gas caps) I have several of the old "Luby emblems" still back at my Dad's ranch in Colorado. Let me know if you would like one. I plan on going back out to visit in October.
67for/me Sep 18th, 08, 08:44 PM That’s cool that somebody knows about Luby Chevrolet. They are still in business but at a different location. Thanks for the offer the car still has the dealer tag on it well off now but I will put it back on. I also have the protect-o-plate with J Lubys signature.
