I think I have the 68 tic-toc-tach, but a 69 speedo. Seeing the difference in the parts doesn't look right to me.

How hard is it to change the speedo?
What are the steps to get to it and swap it out?

That is the stock speedo that goes with the 68. The firebird`s had 160 speedo`s and 69 are definately square like mentioned before

If the parts at Rick's are right as a reference, then it looks like you have a '67 Camaro speedometer and a '68 Camaro tach

That's what I think. This one would match the tic-toc-tac I have.

Is this as easy as:
Take out the screws from the gauge pod.
Disconnect speedo from cable
Somehow take out the old speedo (could use some guidance here)
Reconnect cable
put gauge pod back.
Do I need to remove the steering wheel or any other parts to do this?
Does anyone have the 68 Assembly manual and can scan a few pages with instructions for me?

You need to remove the steering wheel and drop the steering column to get the instrument cluster assembly out of the dash. When I remove mine, I just unbolt the 3 nuts under the dash to get an inch or so clearance to remove the cluster--I don't disconnect the floor end or the ragjoint (YMMV, I think you are supposed to disconnect both of those).
Here's what the back side of the cluster will look like when you get it out: http://www.blown.net/cars/camaro68/help/DSC01136.jpg
Your wiring will be disconnected instead of cut though :). And you won't have the yellow ground wire seen on mine, although I HIGHLY recommend adding a ground wire between the cluster rear housing (as pictured) and somewhere inside the dash.
You'll need to disassemble the cluster to remove the speedo... never done it so I can't tell you the exact steps, but it should be pretty obvious/easy to figure out once you look at it out of the car.

Note the 6K redline on the Tach L-78 Z-28 only. By the way 67 speedo 68 tach.Jeff
