Our '73 has no factory rear spoiler and we just don't think it looks quite right without one. It did come with a rear spoiler in the trunk which the previous owner even had painted to match but never mounted for some reason.

I figured out 'the reason' when I went to mock up the assembly to determine how best to drill accurate holes without a template.

The spoiler he had is for a '74 and later camaro... :noway:

1> Do I need to find all 3 pieces or will the middle/trunklid section be the same?

2> Are the end pieces from an early 2nd gen Camaro the same as found on an early firebird/transam?

3> Finally, What is the best method for getting the holes drilled right the first time since I cannot locate a template?

I can find all kinds of templates for mounting trim pieces, emblems, etc. on a first gen Camaro, but nothing for a rear spoiler or for a 2nd gen at all.

The center section is the same. I am almost positive the firebird ends are different than the camaro. It seems like the angle is not the same. I used to hold the spoiler on the area where it was to be mounted . The top hole is easy to mark. The one on the side is pretty simple also. When the end is held where it will go you can see where to drill the hole. I never missed one in 32 years doing bodywork.

The Center section is the same used on all 2nd Gen Camaro & Firebirds. For that matter a Firebird trunk lid will fit a Camaro. The single Low Spoiler mounts identically to the taller center section of the 3 piece spoilers. All trunk Lids should have recesses in the inner frame to accommodate drilling holes in the skin for spoilers. You can use the 74 and later end pieces on all models but really are not correct for the 70 to 73 models as they are specific and wrap around the corner of the rear quarter for the round tail lights. I don’t think they are available any more but do show up on eBay occasionally. The Firebird end pieces are not the same as a Camaro. I do not believe there is any template for mounting the end pieces on the quarters but I do know that the end pieces will not mount unless the top hole has been rat tailed to an elongated shape.

The boys at NastyZ28 may have templates, I doubt factory ones exist. After the 3 piece Spoiler has been mounted, you have to block sand the assembly to make it look correct.
