Hello to all.
Been a while, but my Son and I have been working on the '69 on and off as time permits. Unfortunately, we've not had a lot of time.
We've finally completed replacement of all the uni-body main components including both rear quarters.
We're now at the dry-fit stage and will need some body shims. I've been searching for 1/16" and 1/8" shims for First Gen Camaros with no success. I've tried Bel Air Bob's site but didn't find any.
Anybody know who carries these size shims that are close to the original style?
Also, I'm anticipating having to extend the edge of the PS door edge for an acceptable door gap. Does anyone have any welding rod of sufficient length they'd like to sell? I don't want to have to buy a whole package.
TIA,

I hope I didnt do something wrong cause its a little to late but the only place I used shims was on the bottom of the fender. And I used washers so they woudlnt go anywhere.

Im not speaking of welding rods but actual round metal bar. They have it a wide assortment of widths in the hardware isle. The same isle as bolts and fasteners. Near where they dispence chain. I imagine people use welding rods because thats what they have laying around. Also you can pick up some sheet metal there and cut out your own shims if you cant find any easily. But gosh sheet metal sure has gotten expensive. They want six to eight dollars for just a small piece.

The welding rod most are referring to is for gas/tig welding. It does not have a flux coating.
The rod thickness will be determined by the size of the gap you're wanting to fill. My local welding supply sells the rod by the pound. At that quantity it's not too expensive. Do you have a local Praxair or Airgas distributor?

:secret:Don't tell anyone I said this, but.....
I found a nice selection of body shims at Harbor Freight for $4.99

I've used these several places on the body and front alignment.

Correct hardware for multiple applications can be had at or through any auto body supply store by the box load. Or you can order directly. Most auto enthusiast vendors take the layman to the cleaners because they lack the knowledge of the professional.
