i have a buddy that has a 1980 or 1979 z28 the front end needs alot of work, he likes the front end of the 1970 model better. what does it take to swap the front clips. thank you

You would require a 70 to 73 (or a 74 - which might work) front sub frame; other words, you looking at a lot of cutting and bracket fabrication. NOTE: The 70 Sub Frame is specific regarding Ball Joints and Bushings (69 Chevelle). Personally I would restore the original front clip as it would be worth more in the long run then a "Hybrid".

If it is only a sheet metal swap,it is a bolt on job and a little wiring for the turn signals.The 1970 to 1974 frame will not fit the 1975 to 1981 body because of the rail length.

Tim - Ah - I forgot about the rail length change in 75 and your right a 70 to 73 front clip should just bolt on. For some reason I was thinking the other way around and concerned about crash bumpers. I'm more in tune with Camaro models from 68 to 73 and not familiar with wiring after 71.

But I still say restore the car with the original front clip it will be worth more in the long run.

I have seen '74 and later Camaros with the '70 to '73 rear tailpanel welded in, and that alone is a huge improvement, imo. Your buddy might consider that hybridization instead.

It looks pretty simple to do, too, though I have not really explored the details involved.

I never liked the wrap-around turn signals of the later 2nd gens compared to the round Corvette-style taillights of the early years.
