For the third time in 2 months I am in the predicament of replacing the starter on my V6 Camaro. The original starter went 10 years before giving up the ghost. I have had 2 new ones installed in the last 2 months and am now staring down a third. My initial thought is that the auto service company doing the work are not properly shimming the starter or possible not shimming it at all.

Any info would be most helpful.

Could be a shim problem, but I had that problem before on past cars. What brand starter is it? If its not an AC delco, take it back & go buy one. They cost more, but will probably last another 10 years. I went this route twice. Put the AC delco in & all was fine.

A guy in our club went through several aftermarket starters on his 98 Formula in very short time. Go with AC Delco, the remanufactured ones have known problems.
