Hey ya'll,

I'm gettin ready to start the sound deadener application and was wondering if anyone had a real world expierience with Raamat VS FatMat. Is it really worth the difference and have you ever had an issue with adheision on the door or roof?

I read the showdown, but am still in the dark as to what the REAL behavior of these products are....

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,
David

I can't help with the Raamat VS FatMat question, but..

I'd recommend Damplifier Pro and some OverKill..

I did my '68'vert and love it..

I am using Damp Pro, Luxury Liner Pro, Spectrum and Firewall on mine. It just seemed like the obvious choice after reading the showdown, plus I searched the Second Skins forum and asked a few questions before I bought.

I've used Rammat. Like the way it sticks, just be careful when you lay it down, peal back the under-liner from one end, cause it really sticks when its all down. Bought 2 rolls and have done the roof and floor, from the firewall back, doubling it up near the rear seat where the mufflers sit. Havent done the doors yet...

Hey Ghostbuster,
What areas did you sound proof, and how many square feet do you think it will take to cover my floor pans, doors, and trunk?
I'm getting ready to order materials for my 68 convertible too.

In the area of 120-160 sq/ft maybe more if you get carried away, or apply two layers in a lot of areas.

I did everything I could...
inner & outer doors & quarters
top firewall, vents, floorpan to top of back seat brace
(I have a power top and pump/motor purrs quietly)
rear fender humps (under the well liner)
complete trunk and inner quarter panels

I agree with Rocketrod
Start with 160 sq/ft., get carried away, apply two layers in some areas.
You can always order more, I had to.

Here are some pictures of my floorpans with Damlifier Pro, OverKill and Luxury Liner.
The Luxury Liner may have been too much, but I really like the DampPro & OverKill.

I have 40 sq feet of regular damplier on its way to me. I am only putting down one layer on the floor. With a vert and without a serious power plant :) I dont need a lot of dampening. Plus I can always order more :D

A little off topic, but should I put sound deadener on the rear seat panel if I'm installing subwoofers in the trunk? I want to keep down all the rattles, but I don't want to kill sound from the subwoofers. Maybe I could use a couple of small squares to dampen the vibrations instead of completely covering it.

If you are talking about the cardboard like panel behind the rear seat then no. Damp Pro/Dynamt like materials are to be applied to metal surfaces. I am using Luxury Liner Pro on the divider, http://www.secondskinaudio.com/noise-barrier/Luxury-Liner-Pro.php, and covering the metal bracing with Damp Pro.
