My '69 is missing the dome light inside. The headliner looks like it's been on the car for a very long time, but obviously, it's not original, or there would be a hole where the dome light mounted. Anyway, can someone tell me which direction the wiring for the dome light comes from underneath of the headliner? I'm hoping the wiring is still there, and all I have to do it cut a small slit in the center. If I can verify that at least the wiring is in the roof, then I can proceed. Thanks - Mark

You might find/feel it left side of the dash going up the A-pillar.
Through the roof frame across top of door, then making a turn to the middle following the roof structure member.

White & orange wires.

On a 69 it comes up the sail panel and then across the center support panel of the roof. You can see the location of the wires in the pic.

Yeah, and I think you can get at the harness connection from the trunk. I think I have an extra, if it turns out yours is missing, and you want to fish one into place.

Thanks guys for the pics and tips. I found a black and red wire set behind the left sail panel. I assume it's for the dome light, although obviously not original wiring, being the wrong color and location. I will chance it this weekend and cut into the headliner where the base is supposed to be and hope the wires are there.

Remember the dome light needs full time power, not switched power. If your wire is only 'hot' when the key is turned "ON" then you dont want that one. You need a hot wire all the time, the spring switch in the door jab is the 'ground' connection. :)

The wiring goes to the same harness that goes to the trunk on the LH side.

No problem, Mark... I was just thinking that you may be able to feel through the headliner to see if the wires are there at all. If not, I think you're stuck w/o a light unless you mess with the headliner. Of course you could always install one of these:

I installed a dome light for the correct look, but there's no bulb in it, cuz I did not want to run down my battery when the door was open.

You could install one w/o wires, and still get the correct look. BTW mine only has 1 screw in it as the other one would have cut right through a seam....didn't want the headliner to start unraveling!

This has proven to help me as well since I have the same problem. I have no headliner though and can see there is no wiring. Does anyone know where I can find the little plastic wire clips (retainers) that hold the wire to the roof? I have several broken. Of do you know of something else that will work?

I'm thinking that I will drill small holes next to the slots and use small wire ties. I only have one of the original clips. You just don't want the wires to droop down onto the headliner.
