I Have An 86 5.7 Tpi. Over The Summer I Changed The Pluggs, wires, And Fuel Rail To Detail...i Used To Be Able To Start The Car While Outside Just Reaching In, Holding The Key To The On Position For 1 Second...now It Won't Start Until The 5th Or 6th Time I Try, Each Time Holding The Key On For 4-6 Seconds...
Anybody Know What I Might Have Screwed Up?
If It Is Warm And I Start It Within 5 Minutes It Starts Ok....any Longer And It Has To Be Cranked Several Times Again.

Anyone?

These used to have issues with the IAC (Idle Air control) . Check it out it will cause hard starts also check the cold start injector it's not in the rail.

fuel pump relay can cause hard start problems. Currently i have same problem but it sits for a week or two before i start again

As said, listen for fuel pump hum for 2-3 seconds after key is turned on to ign. No fuel pump, no start.

However, check cold start injector for power. It gets power from a 8 second switch under the thermostat housing when cold, as in overnight setting. Once warm, switch opens up and not used.

Tap your rail with a fuel pressure gauge and see if it holds pressure after the 2 second prime. If it builds pressure to spec but dumps back to 0 psi..kinda negates the intended purpose and hence the extended crank no start.See above..this unit does employ a cold start injector..kinda like a modern day efi version of a choke horn atop a carb for immediate enrichment during cold starts.
