Saw this not too far from my house for sale 800 bucks. Has some SERIOUS rotting. It runs, though. Doesnt look like a Car Craft/JC Whitney project gone wrong Looks just like the z28 from the 79 brochures and ads right down to the wheels. Im kind of thinking about talking him down and then taking it to car shows just to tick people off. I could drive it until I fall through the floor boards. Id probably have to get an alarm for it in case someone wanted to punch through the trunk and steal my stuff ;)

That Z will be 30 years old next year and a True Classic and worth a lot more plus the value will continue to increase each year. I believe the 79Z had 3.42 Gears and the Type LT was replaced with the Berlinetta. Consider the expense and work the 1st Gen guys are going through restoring bodies that are needless to say "Totaled" compared to that ride which I personally consider the better car. Other then replacing a few panels it looks like everything is there. Yellow didn't appeal to me but the White or Blue ones looked Great. The 2nd Gen design features routes based from the accumulation of knowledge acquired by GM during the Muscle Car Era which no other 79 model can claim - the same car in 1970 shared drive components from the 69 Camaro, Chevelle and Corvette plus had the most powerful SBC ever offered by GM. That 79Z deserves restoration and would TIC me OFF if it was not respected and restored - convincing or what - LOL

Go for it, I have seen alot worse. If I ran accross that car in my neighborhood at that price I would not think twice about buying it. I would worry someone else might get there first. I say buy it. Good luck.

I just picked up a numbers matching (350ci/Auto/88k) 81Z a couple of weeks back for $1200. Decent car, worst part is the interior. Floors, rails, etc are nice.

I bough it out of this shed

I say buy it - hard to go wrong for $800.

Looks great from 20', but it needs redone. Interior is a mess. Good thing it was inside because the driver side t-top leaks like crazy:(

If I had the room and extra $$, I would be buying every one of these I could find. I really like the 2nd gen urethane bumper cars and they are still pretty cheap.

Hard to pass up a v8 $800 fbody that runs of any year.

I'd buy it to. Worse case you could part it out I suppose. The wheels on the 79 bring descent $$$.

I'd fix it up though..

I don't have to many more. I already ripped the seats and carpet out to replace the carpet. Rear pass bottom seat cloth needs a patch. I've never seen these type of seat covers before. Blue and Silver striped cloth with the Z28 Embroidered. It does have PW, PL, AC, and Tilt. All the power stuff except AC still works.

The floor does need a 1"x4" patch on the rear pass floor area where it curves up and a small patch on driver side toe kick. Other than that, no other metal replacement needed. I'll POR15 the whole floor.

What I have is on my site and as soon as I get more time I'll be adding some more progress pics.

It will get the inside fixed up, painted, and new weather seals. Not sure when it will get them - to much stuff to work on:)

Back to the one you are looking at - the wheels will fetch at least half the asking price if you have to part it. I only check a few things out closely when I look at them. Of course the rear frame rails. Harder to determine on 2nd gens is the front spring shackle area. They have a tendency to look OK from the bottom, but pull up the rear seats and check for sure. Just push the bottom cushion in and pull up.

Neal - better forums for 2nd gens are nastyz28.com and camarosource.ca. Most of the parts are also reproduced now and sold by most of the common resto parts places. In the northeast where we are, it's hard to find good used stuff:(
