View Full Version : Report on Kalitta's crash RamAirDave Sep 18th, 08, 10:25 PM Saw this posted over on the sYc board: http://www.njsp.org/news/pr091708.html buenymayor Sep 18th, 08, 10:44 PM That was a dramatic crash, seems even more so after reading the crash investigation. Sounds like Scott was trying to get her shutdown, but couldn't. What's with the toxicity report?? wiskeesour Sep 19th, 08, 12:05 AM theres NO WAY he was drinkin.... buenymayor Sep 19th, 08, 01:23 AM I sure wouldn't think so. Cold medicine??? bosco4317 Sep 19th, 08, 04:33 AM You would have to drink quite a bit of over the counter cold medicine to be a .02%. The ingredient in most cold medicines that makes people loopy is actually Dextromathoraphan. People chug bottles of Nyquil or Robutussin for the high. The street name of the drug is DXM, it is fairly popular due to the availability and price. Many times it is consumed right in side the drug store. yellow69RS Sep 19th, 08, 06:56 AM I find it odd that the report calls it Ethanol, not alcohol. Seems if they thought it was booze they would have called it alcohol. What a tradgedy. Jeff Codi Sep 19th, 08, 12:37 PM The .02% could be from the night before. Not a large or even significant amount of alcohol. It just indicates what was in his system at the time of crash. By NHRA standards, it is still a no-no though. Brentmc Sep 19th, 08, 12:45 PM 100G and 200G impacts? Oh my... bosco4317 Sep 19th, 08, 02:17 PM I find it odd that the report calls it Ethanol, not alcohol. Seems if they thought it was booze they would have called it alcohol. Ethyl alcohol or ETOH is the proper name for the type of alcohol which is commonly found in cold medicines, spirits, and malt beverages. This is the type of alcohol ingested into the human body when you drink "booze". When you are given a blood or breath test, this is the type of alcohol that is being measured. There are other alcohols, such as methyl, isopropyl, etc. However, these are not meant to be consumed and can be fatal if ingested. Blade Sep 20th, 08, 05:50 AM Ur body already produces alochol that is why its always .02%. The tox reports are normal. Now with the chute being deployed like that it does show is was alive the entire time and getting the car shut down. Just sad. thedugan Sep 20th, 08, 06:16 AM Seems like the car never slowed down even though he tried to slow it down. The clutch was never disengaged. DOUG G Sep 20th, 08, 06:52 AM That is really eye opening reading that. Seems that they need to come up with a way to shut the fuel off when they hit the brakes or pull the chute ? bosco4317 Sep 20th, 08, 02:45 PM Ur body already produces alochol that is why its always .02%. The tox reports are normal. Not to hijack the thread, but please site your source for this claim. It is not "normal" for a tox screen to come back a .02% BAC. I have witnessed countless breath and blood tests for which the subject posted a .00%. I have heard every excuse in the book from lawyers and defendants at DWI trails attempting to blame a BAC reading on other things, but this is a new one. I have heard every excuse in the book from lawyers and defendants at DWI trails attempting to blame a BAC reading on other things, but this is a new one. I worked as a substance abuse counselor for a period of time, and I never heard this before, even from my hardcore DUI/OWI clients. If this were true, certainly the testing devices would be calibrated to reflect .00 BAC upon testing to eliminate the "naturally occuring BAC. This is new for me too. Sounds urban legend to me. ace's68 Sep 20th, 08, 08:18 PM Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't his car explode before the 1/4 mile? If so think about this, Your dealing with the loudest, most dangerous internal combustion engine on the face of the Earth, there so loud even if your outside of the race track they will make you jump, I'm sure if the engine failed before he got on the brakes he was knocked out from the blast. hereitis67 Sep 21st, 08, 05:11 PM for the bac report he may of had some drinks the night before. if they smelt alcohol on him they wont let you on track. not a helper with car never mind driver they will pull you off the track. i know with monster trucks in wildood they got a seperate shutoff ignition in case a driver overturns or goes wild or get knocks unconsious. booth can shut it off maybe that should be with those drag cars also. before taking off test the system first. in englishtown it is close to walls than a secondary wall than a netting. next weekend it is fall classic car show there ill take pictures of track.but after the 1/4 mile theres more than another 1/4 mile before you hit the rocks than the turn to go off of track.so something went wrong on why he still was on gas after 1/4 mile and why parachute didnt open right. it was a tragedy tho . they need more rules and mods like nascar has on cars |
