hello, well i almost have my headliner done. the question i have is about the tack strip. i have read all the post i can find on this and there is not really an answer. my tack strips are metal with a cork like middle. the thing is they are solid metal on the back. i have tried using 1/4 staples in a craftsman electric gun. they are to long. they are not going to penetrate that metal. the cork is not thick enough. it all looks solid. does anyone know what size the actual staples were that they used at the factory? any help would be great. thanks

ken, take the staples and cut the ends off with a pair of dikes, then put them in with a pair of pliers, the headliner should only be pulled snung, this is how a ex-body man did mine in my shop on labor day. good luck

hey guys - im having the same or similar situation. My headliner is in but the sail panels aren't. I also have the tack strips with cork on one side and metal on the other (with holes for screws on each end). Can either of you tell me where this strip goes and how it attaches to the sail panel piece? Also, I bought new sail panels and it appears the material needs to be tuck over the edges and glued(?) to the back - what kind of glue do you use? The spray adhesive I saw at WalMart today said NOT to use it on vinyl (and isn't this headliner / sail panel material vinyl? Thanks !

thanks jcfcamaro for the reply. 67camarolover, here is a pic of the tack strip installed. it does not hook on to the sail panel. the headliner is stapled to the tack strip. then the sail panel goes on. the sail panel goes on with clips simaler to door panel clips. alot of people on here have used industrial velcro i think. yo do not have to glue the sail panels. after they are clipped in or velcro. then tuck ends around metal and install pinch weld.

I removed my tack strip and pulled the headliner tight then remounted the tack strip over the headliner material. Your sail panels are going to cover the strips anyway.
