Anyone seen the felt inserts that fill the tail light housings inside the trunk. If you are not sure of what I am talking about, I can send a picture. They are about 3/4" or so long and about an 1/8" round that are inserted into the small holes on the tail light housing on the trunk side.

Save them, they are original.
They were used to keep paint from getting inside. Most cars they are long gone.
They were also in the frame on the front clip.

I am surprised no one posted a picture.
I don't have a good camera for small stuff, but I will dig them out of my storage and post some pictures. I look for them when someone tells me their car is original and untouched.

Here are a couple of pics of tail light felt inserts. My car has the originals.

Wow... this entire time I was thinking that those were a hack that someone had done to keep water from getting inside the trunk. To be quite honest, I thought it was a filter from a cigarette someone stuffed in the tail light a long time ago.

I thought the light assembles were installed after the body was completely painted?

Those pieces of felt act as a vent dust filter. The holes are vents to allow moisture to escape the tail-light. The felt keeps the dust out.
I found this out when I lost one some time ago and found the tail-light with out the felt was very dusty inside.
