View Full Version : Blind Veteran since 1975
Autoteck Sep 20th, 08, 03:34 PM Hi everyone and thank you for allowing me this opportunity to express myself here. I want everyone to know since my disability I haven't had a car and/or drive. The posts I made are by memory's since the 70's. I can't remember alot of things because its been so many years since I worked on cars.
I was at one time a ace of engines and that was taken away from me. I ask that due to my status I'm allowed to post graphics to inventions.
These graphics I propose to present will become the community's properity as I post them with my watermark.
I have much to share with you. All I ask is for is to be recognized for my creations and insight.
Thank You.

Everett#2390 Sep 20th, 08, 06:10 PM Welcome, always nice to meet another Vet.
Autoteck Sep 21st, 08, 09:27 AM Hi. Thanks for your kind words. I was in the Air Force from 73-76. I trained as a aircraft maintaince on reciprocation engines. Also during my time I spent hours in the auto shop on base. I owned a 73 vega then and installed a 350 chevy engine with a turbohydromatic 3 speed tranny.
If there's anyone out there that remembers my car ITS ME! GRUMPY!
I miss my old friends.

Old baldguy Sep 21st, 08, 01:59 PM :)Welcome and thanks..
dawg Sep 21st, 08, 02:19 PM welcome aboard!
I retired from the Navy in 1996
NHBandit Sep 21st, 08, 02:45 PM I was in tech school in Wichita Falls in 75 for aircraft maintenance on C-130s. There was a guy I hung out with that built a smallblock Vega but his name wasn't Ed and "Grumpy" dosn't ring a bell. If I remember correctly he a took trip to Don Hardy Racecars (also in TX) and picked up all the engine swap parts. At the time I had a 66 Chevelle for awhile and then a 66 GTO I swapped a 427 into at the base hobby shop. Used to tell people it was a Canadian GTO and that it came from the factory with the 427.... Also had a 59 El Camino for awhile I bought for $200. Metallic blue with a pearl white roof. Any of that stuff sound familiar ? Those were the days. We could use the base hobby shop and all their tools for $1.50 a day and for long term projects you could rent a bay for $25 a month. Just off base there were a few used car dealers that always had a few muscle cars for sale. I'll never forgive my ex wife for not letting me buy the 63 split window Vette they had for $1200 with the wrong engine. My daughter had just been born and her excuse was that there was no place to put the baby..
GogglesPisano Sep 21st, 08, 02:53 PM Ed,
I'm a fellow AF vet and KC10 crew chief. Nice to read from fellow members.

Welcome aboard. I am legally blind and don't drive anymore, but I too in the day was a real motor head. I am 57 and remember when these cars were new. Fortuantely I own a couple that my wife and friends enjoy driving to shows and cruise nights,so I still enjoy them. Thanks for posting and I look forward to more from you.
regards
Rob
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Sep 21st, 08, 05:29 PM Welcome Grumpy 2,I am not a Vet but feel proud to have read this post and am just wondering how this works with posting for you beeing blind.I shot a nail in my right eye about 14 years ago and some time think about not having my eye site.I hope I don't offend anyone by asking this.A DJ was talking about this on a radio station aroud me the other day and was just currious how this worked is it a voice activeted computer,no need to answer if you dont want to.
Autoteck Sep 21st, 08, 08:45 PM Wow I'm absolutely astounded by this...I was in Wichita Falls in 74 or so. My course of study was aircraft maintaince... The civillain teachers were the boss. MAN..Do you remember the "roach koach"..LOL. They had the best soybean burgers..LOL.. Also the weather was nasty there. In the morning it would snow then later on in the day it would be 90 degrees. Crazy weather..LOL..
I also studied c130's and kc135's. I was stationed at Rome NY...Griffiss AFB. (SAC). Did TDY at Wright Patterson AFB and in Pennsacola Fla. Man that was the best. On our way to Fla. one of our engines crashed and we made a emergency landing on three mile island or close by...Holy S... No lie guys.
I feel so honored by all the replys that have touched base.:hurray:
Reply to david calligan.. Thank you sir. My eye condition is glycoma and I'm nearly blind in the "center of both eyes and the fields are narrowing".
I have to scan the page of the web to see the picture/text and the keyboard. I was admitted off base to a specialist who determined my condition therefore was released from active service.
Reply to skyman51.. I find it most interesting what you stated about being blind and a motor head. I know for a fact that dreams do come true especially when your heart and soul commands those dreams. I was at one time a dreamer of inventions but, have since lost the connection because of my disability. We can accomplish those thoughts thanks to the internet and camaros.net.

wiskeesour Sep 21st, 08, 08:54 PM dream to long and it becomes a fantasy.
Glad to have you aboard Grumpy. you went thru some cool times. I have told my father numerous times I wish I would have grown up in his age. However, I am glad I am his son.
God bless Vets.
Autoteck Sep 21st, 08, 09:12 PM Replying to wiskeeysour...The dreams are thoughts when your awake and pondering on a subject of interest. Placing your thoughts indephly on a matter of great concern requires concentration.
Engine development was the most important concern I had, so I focused all my thoughts on the matter. Remember the song "dreamweaver"?.
wiskeesour Sep 21st, 08, 10:42 PM you said it!
great, now that song will be goin thru my head for the next 2 days.

It is my cenral vision that is shot also and I too have to scan and enlarge to see the screen. Mine is believed to be possible MS,but they still don;t know after three years. By the way my career was a pilot so I am now retired on disability. Hang in there, I know how tough it is sometimes.

Thanks for the reply Rob. It makes things tough. I once seen a eye specialist for a fields exam. Funny when they asked me.. if I'm a pilot?
Makes sense now that you said that. I kepy my vision a secret when I left the military because of employers refusing to hire someone like me. I wandered from job to job until I was fired because I could not read a machinist ruler. It does play tricks on your mind sometimes when you think you saw something others didn't.
