just wondering about my egr system. the valve isnt broken and i have cleaned it, it works just fine. its the solenoid that i think is broken because there is 2 vacuum lines on the solenoid. the one that goes to the egr valve itself has no vacuum coming out of it so the valve wont open. but the other side has vacuum. if some1 could help me itd be great. i want to know if i can fix this or if theres tests i can run to see if it works correctly. and no it is not setting an egr code. just a code 45 (rich exaust) code. 88 camaro i roc tbi 305v8 thanks

the valve is a rubber diaghram that you cant tell that its broke/ripped until you put vaccum open.
have you cleaned it with carb cleaner? that would dry out the rubber inside.
What all has been done to the car? tuneup?

i have done the wires. new cap and rotor, new rad,rad cap, and water pump, ects, oxy sensor , air filter, oil change, flushed the coolant recently. and no the egr valve itself opens when vacuum is applied to it. its the solenoid itself that doesnt have vacuum on the egr side. its not the hoses its the solenoid . its just the solenoid itself is expensive and i want to know if i can fix it ?

Since its an '88 and its ECM controlled, you can use a paper clip and connect Pins A & B on the ALDL connector, turn key on, eng off.
This diagnostic function opens the solenoid so the tech can apply vacuum through the solenoid to see if EGR valve works, control to the solenoid is present, and solenoid opens.
EGR comes on during cruise after 15 seconds if pedal is not moved, normally.
