Hello all. My name is Aaron, and i just bought a 1976 Camaro LS, It originally had a 350, but the previous owners put in a rebuilt 305 because of gas prices. I bought the car as a project car. I plan on keeping it street legal, but also drag racing it once in awhile. I know i won't set any track records keeping it street legal, but it's still fun. Anyways, I know the ignition is bad on it, and the previous owners put a push button start in it, but the wire got too close to the block and it burned through the wire. So the only way to start it right now is touching a screwdriver to the terminals on the starter. It ran fine bringing it home, but once we got it home, we couldn't re-start it. It would just tick, like the starter wasn't getting enough juice from the battery to turn over the engine. So we put a battery from my Escort in and you could hear the engine trying to turn over, and could smell the gas pumping into the cylinders, but it wouldn't start. I don't know much about cars, which is one reason i got one that was already in rough shape. It's a learning experience. But i'm guessing it might be the distributor just not delivering a spark to the plugs, but again, i don't know much, so what do you guys think? All input is appreciated.

hi Aaron. welcome to TC.
a good first-place to start on your new ride is fix that ignition problem, then branch outward.
I haven't read much this morning in any of the Forum's Tech areas, but most times, you'll see better results/answers by taking specific questions to the specific topic areas here..
not fussing at ya, it just yields better results that way
(also,,this Friday night is the "Castle" cruise down in Fern Creek, at the Valor Traditional Academy site.
might pick-up some good pointers from the guys there). :beers:
