Mark Rossiter Sep 24th, 08, 10:23 AM Clock? Are you sure they are factory drilled holes?
KAWSAM62 Sep 24th, 08, 10:32 AM yes im preety sure, i turned the dash over and around this hole is molded stiffeners in the plastic to keep it from cracking out?
Daral Sep 24th, 08, 11:09 AM Scott - a picture might help.
jd502 Sep 24th, 08, 06:07 PM Is the bigger hole slightly oval?
Badbird Sep 24th, 08, 06:54 PM Yes, I noticed this hole the other day when I was reconditioning my 68 manual tranny console and I'm thinking it's for the factory installed gauges which mount to the console?
The Sleeper 327 Sep 24th, 08, 07:04 PM I'm thinking its probably the clock, if it is drill bit size hole, oval middle, and another drill bit size hole. Pic would help, probably not the full gauges.

console with no gauges nor the cutout for the clock

thx again scott
There is a difference from the factory, but you could use the one you have. All you have to do is cut a hole that matches the 'footprint' of the gauge cluster. The part you have to cut out is all plastic, so it shouldn't be too terribly difficult. Score the plastic with a sharp utility knife and then cut out the opening with a coping saw or hacksaw blade. I have a console with gauges if you want me to trace the opening for you.
KAWSAM62 Sep 26th, 08, 08:46 AM thx all, not having to buy that other consol saves another 300.00 bucks! problee i would buy the gauge package and use them to trace out on the plastic or make some sort of adapter that goes on top of my consol but attaches to the gauge pod.
thx again scott
67CamaroRS/SS Sep 26th, 08, 12:15 PM Make sure you look at a console made for gauges because it's not just one big hole. The bottom part of the hole has two small holes meant to line up the gauges or stabilize them or something. Here is a picture of a console with the gauges out:

2x67rs/ss Sep 26th, 08, 01:38 PM Check out these pics from 67familyfun on a prvious dicusion about this. He shows how he did it without cutting the console. There is a post in same dicussion where I have pics from where I cut a console to do it.

Good point, Andy. I thought about that thread before I submitted my earlier response because his 'conversion' came out real nice, but I'd much rather cut a hole in the plastic than try to carve of the bottom of a metal gauge cluster. Six of one, half-dozen of the other I suppose. I guess it depends on how badly you want to keep the console in its original condition.
