I bought some seat hinge covers from classic industries. As you may know the only color is black. I am trying to dye them with sem white. After many unsuccessful attempts, I am calling in the calvary. I have tried washing them with dawn dish detergent and then wiping them down with grease and dust remover. I have tried soft scrub and them wiping them down with gas. I have tried sem sand free and then spraying them while the sand free is still wet like the instructions say. It is just not sticking. I can rub the edges and it comes off with ease. Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions from the (Yoda's) in the group?
Thanks in advance

I used sem plastic cleaner and vinyl prep and had no issues with ivory covering the black. I turned black hinge covers, seat backs, headrests, and deluxe door latch incerts ivory... The paint I used was 2 different omni-pak laquer products, one for soft vinyl and one for hard plastic.

I just tried this last weekend. They came out okay but paint isnt stuck as well as id like. i think the repo parts are the culprit( suprise!)I did this years ago on some gm ones and had better results. I used some spary adhesion promoter, then plastic primer, then my top coat. all put on in very thin coats. i bought all the stuff from Rikcs. if i new wher to get this SEM stuff i would give that a try as i have read that before on here.

Try NPD www.npdlink.com their colors really matched and they have both vinyl and plastic products.

Thanks, but that is exactly where I got the SEM products. Did it just like the directions called for. I cleaned them really good with dawn and soft scrub. Wiped them them down with grease and dust remover and them sprayed them with SEM sand free. Then sprayed several light coats of SEM Ivory dye. It sticks, but you can scratch it off with your fingernail. I have dyed other things with alot of success. This has me confused.
Thanks
