A car I am looking at has a 12 bolt rear with the tubes welded to the pumpkin. The car has a single leaf on it. If I wanted to put multi-leafs in it, then I'd be able to do it as the perches on the 12-bolt are set up for multi-leafs. Is this correct?

You can put multi leaf on it either way. If it has multi perches then its a no brainer, if it has single leaf perches you need a kit from DSE to add the multi leaf springs.

No you don't, just put them on and if you are worried about the plates bending, then install some spacers! And use needed "U"-bolts!! Throw the darned little bitty "T"-bolts in your bolt can!!
That said, you will need to use 5/16" carriage bolts that have the squares ground off under the heads and then rethread as long as you need them to be! Install the carriage bolts, whack hell outta them on the heads and tighten down tight and go!
Been there and mine are this way now!
