I just fixed my console gauges (Temp, Fuel Gauges Now Working) by extra grounding,I just noticed driving for the 1st. time at night ,(it is bright during the day in Fla)....now my interior lights are on with switch off and door closed :confused::sad:. Do I need to ground the light switch now also ?? Looking for help ........1969 Camaro SS..........thanks guys...alan

Is the headlight switch turned to keep the dome light on? If the dome light is not full bright it might be a blown fuse causing a feedback.

Your interior lights are wired to come on when one of the switches grounds the white wire to the interior lights. Make sure you have not tied into one of the white wires to the interior lights and grounded it. If not you may try removing each switch connection and see if the light goes out. If that doesn't work, the white wire has to be grounded somewhere in the circuit.

Switch is in the off position, only thing I grounded was the Gauges itself with a black wire ( ground )jumpered to each gauge ,no white wire involved that I tied to.Thanks for the replies....alan

i had the same issue with the int. light staying on, turns out it was the door jamb switch that was causing the problem. now i always check to see if the light is out to avoid a flat battery

Your interior lights are wired to come on when one of the switches grounds the white wire to the interior lights.
ie the current goes to the light, then to the door switch which grounds to the body

The easy way to check if door switch is out of alignment, have someone hold the other door switch in..(dont rely or assume the other one is correctly adjusted) and manually check each.
I cant rem if the trunk connects to the interior light also, some check this switch also

From there u can id which switch is mis adjusteded and adjust with the lock nut.

Failing that, could be a faulty switch, undo the lock nut, pull the switch(s) thru and manually isolate the wire/switches from the body.

The driver side switch has 2 prongs on it and the passenger side switch has the one pronge on it. The white wire should connect on the drivers door switch then jump to the passenger door switch. You might not be able to unscrew the drivers side because of the 2 wires on it. It will just twist the wires together while you unscrew it. You might have to take the kick panels off to get to the switches. It gets it ground thru the switches connected to the metal of the door jambs.

mine was the drivers side, i did not replace it , just kept "working" it in and out till it felt smooth again. been fine since then. ( 1.5 yrs ) but still nervous about the light being on after parked.

i did not use any lube/teflon/oil. i just kept pushing the button like a kid trying to get the elevator down faster.
