Need someone to double check my wiring here. Adding new ignition (MSD 6AL) and coil (MSD Blaster SS) with new motor install. Original wiring harness had a yellow wire from the starter (R) to the + side of the old coil. I assume that I can remove this yellow wire altogether from my harness – no longer needed for anything. Is this correct?


The old coil also had a white wire running to its + side; because my new MSD ignition now provides positive to the new coil, can I use the original white wire to feed the new ignition its required “switched 12 volts? The old white wire has cloth type insulation on it and I am not sure if it has some type of fused link. It is no issue for me to pull 12 volts switched from another source but if the white wire will do the trick, I prefer using it because it is already in the harness.


Last question. The pic below is my new starter. I assume that the large empty lug to the lower left of the pic (away from the motor) is my positive direct from the battery and the small lug on top is my purple from the harness. Is this correct? Any other wires required to my starter?

I would say that old coil wire was a resistance wire which makes it provide less than 12 volts and it will drive you nuts with new ignition. I suggest running a new wire to the switched block on the fuse block.
