I bought this valve http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190254276701&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123 and need some clarification... I'm concerned about it's functions. I'm replacing the one I have now. From what I've been reading I need a residual 10lb valving function for the rear drum brakes. This guy told me it does all prop, metering and residual. I've gone back and forth with him and he assured me it does. The place I ordered my master cylinder Piratejack.net said they never heard of a combination valve that does residual pressure for the rears and I would need a seperate 10lb valve. Here's how they say to plumb it http://www.piratejack.net/Tech-Support/Proper-Plumbing-for-a-disc/drum-system.html Ebay guy said I don't need the valves. Like I said his unit has them built in. On this page http://www.piratejack.net/Catalogs-Tech.-Guides/View-category.html download the TECH GUIDE and scroll down to page 12. It explains what a Combination Valve does.
Can anyone help me out? Also would it hurt if I put the 10LB valve in either way?
Thanks

You do not need the valve if you have a combo valve. We use combos all of the time in our front disc and 4 wheel disc conversion kits from MBM (Pirate Jack) We do not use residual valves as a rule, but adding a valve should not hurt.A resid valve is needed is the master is mounted below the level of the calipers (like a street rod under the floor).

How have things been with your carb work btw? What you have is a 70s style conbo valve.
You dont need the residual valve with that. Its not the stock way of doin things but it works fine. Thats what I used when I converted to disc/drum from drum/drum. Mine stops like its a brand new car. I did have two bad ones tho one leaked fluid out the stem at the end of it coverd by that rubber the second did not let fluid to the rears, third was a charm.
I had to repaint my iner wheel well inside that was no fun.

The carb is what it is..It's been fine. I did a bunch of tuning with the A/F and this is the best I'm gonna get. It's running pretty good.
I'm confused, but I have to go with Pirate Jack/MBM on this one just because they sell what everyone is REselling. I got the PV2C valve today. I talked to Tammy and she confirmed it DOESN'T have a risidual valve for the rear in it. http://www.piratejack.net/Proportioning-Valves/PV2C-Chrome-Disc-Drum-Proportioning-Valve.html Maybe she's selling me something extra or not , but I ended up buying the 10lb res valve for the rear brakes anyway. I can't see it hurting having it even IF the PV2C has does one. If you look at the internal diagram on page 12 that I linked earlier there is no residual valve built in. READ HERE http://www.piratejack.net/Tech-Support/FAQs-Proportioning-Valves.html A quote from the write up
Combination ... A combination valve incorporates metering and proportioning into one valve. These are available for disc/drum or drum/drum systems.
Doesn't say anything about residual
Residual ... There are two different residual valves. A ten pound residual valve will maintain a line pressure to the rear to keep the drum brake shoes out close to the drums giving a higher firmer pedal. Without a ten pound residual pressure to the rear you will experience a spongy pedal. A two pound residual valve is required whenever the master cylinder is lower than the calipers to prevent backflow of fluid from the calipers to the master.

As for the stock thing....When I'm done with my twin turbo setup I don't think a stock proportioning valve will matter...LOL:D
Also my inner fenders are powder coated... Just wipe them clean. No need to repaint.
