: starts and dies 305 tpi
jim r Oct 5th, 08, 09:20 PM 89 iroc 305tpi, lots of past problems, seem to have gotten those worked out. now it will crank and start but dies right after it starts, 48 lbs of fuel pressure. If we spray starting fluid in the air intake it stays running, checked the module in the distibutor, checks ok, when we take one of the wires to a injector and put a test light across the two terminals it pulses, but a very dime orange light. It's like the injectors are not letting fuel into the engine. this is the car that melted a battery when the solenoid stayed engaged. we have have a lot of electrcal issues on this car. we haven't had it long and have no previous history of it. Jim
Everett#2390 Oct 6th, 08, 04:43 AM Fusible links at starter solenoid not open?
Alternator working when running?
Good engine grounds? All of them? Check those in the EFI harness.
As you look at the injector connectors, you will find there are two branches, one for each side of engine. Each of them have a separate power source and fuse, black wire is power. The ECM places a low on the colored wire to open the inj. So, if battery voltage is low or alt is not working, low voltage of the electrical system.
Alt has two-wire plug, closest to BAT terminal is ign switched exciter, the other is voltage sense from either the fuseblock or from the unswitched ign connector.
Suggestion: don't use starting fluid, use WD40.

Everett#2390 Oct 6th, 08, 10:17 AM I forgot to add another place to look for a vacuum leak - EGR valve.
jim r Oct 14th, 08, 08:15 PM sprayed carb cleaner around egr valve, no difference.checked grounds at rear of both heads ,one black wire on the drivers side lit the test light very dim when reverse checking with the clip on the positive battery. when we added a additional ground wire to this ground wire without disconecting it, there was no difference,. the wire i am refering to is not the one that goes to the fuel pump relay, but one of the other relays on the rear of the left fender. still 48# fuel pressure. it's like were not getting fuel through the injectors. i think were going to take the plug off the computer and check for ground there. there are to wires going from the pass. head, a black one and tan with white tracer. they both appear to be going through the pass. fender towards the computer. does the computer tell the injecters to pulse? any other ideas? thanks Jim
jim r Oct 14th, 08, 08:23 PM also what is the possibility of bad injecters, all check around 16 ohms if i remember correctly
jim r Oct 14th, 08, 08:30 PM also will the vats system allow the car to start while cranking and then die immediately or if the wires in the column are broken will it not crank at all. thanks Jim
Everett#2390 Oct 14th, 08, 09:29 PM VATS will not allow starter to work if VATS is working.
Power to injectors is through black wire at injectors, both sides of engine via relay(s). Colored wire goes to ECm to place a low on it to open injector(s).
Distributor sends pulse to ECM, ECm splits signal to ign and injectors.
Fuel pressure is good.
jim r Oct 21st, 08, 08:38 PM after checking all the connections of wiring, relays, fuses, grounds, dist, injectors, ecm, we disconected the maf sensor and it stayed running. not good mind you, but still running, Everett thanks for all your suggestions the new maf works great and the car now starts and runs great. i hope i can help others as you helped us. thanks again Jim
