i recently aquired a 1983 z28 with a 1972 4-bolt main out of a Nova. I drove it for a little while as it was when i got it, stack manifold quadrajet carb, etc.

Suddenly, it just died. started up didnt think anything of it. well now, when ever i drive it, it will die randomly, hot, cold, over 50 mph, under 30 mph. i thought it was fuel delivery related so i changed everything. New carb, new fuel pump, re ran fuel line (incase of vapor lock) and replaced the fuel filter.

i thought that this would solve the problem, but just my luck, it didnt.

ive ran out of probable ideas, if anyone knows anything or has an idea, please let me know. Thanks

O and does anyone know what a cracked flywheel sounds like, think i might have an issue there. :(

Ignition coil getting hot and dying? A cracked flexplate will make a nasty chattering sound. Check to make sure all the torque converter bolts are tight. One of them loose will chatter, too.

but when the engine dies, it not just cut power nothing left. power still works it acts like its getting robbed of fuel, almost like vapor locking, hence why i replaced the carb, pump, filter and lines.

If it is the coil, it just looses power to the ignition, the rest of the cars power accesories will still work. The engine needs fuel, air, and spark (at the right time) to run. Loose any of those, and the engine will die, but everything else will still work on the car (power windows, lights, etc....

so if it was the ign. coil the car would act like its running out of gas, kinda like it would if you crimped the fuel line?

he says replaced fuel line, is there still a vent line or return?

if not, sounds to me like he needs a thermal spacer under the carb?
cooking gas? seen it before

if you have an HEI ignition system on the car, its most likely the module inside. typical problem when the module is installed without die-electric grease.
